Property of a norwegian shipping magnate, Château Capbourteil sleeps 19 people, has a heated swimming pool, an all-weather tennis court and a mere 225 hectares of land.

I went there yesterday with Dan and Lee Jones to meet the owner’s house managers and do the all-important photography which is the hallmark of a Pure France property. We discussed the details in the dining room, sat before a blazing log fire the size of a small car.

Think of the word “château” and this property has it. Inside and out, it looks like a film set, something out of Disneyland with massive stonework and solid wood panelling. We were missing Kevin Costner and Russell Crowe, though.
Built on a limestone bluff above a river so that it could be defended, the château dominated the landscape, controlling access to water and the accompanying mills. The oldest part of the house is the chapel, dating from the 12th Century. The rest of the building was constructed only a little later.
Lisse would have owed allegiance, first to the Counts of Toulouse, then through the Dukes of Aquitaine to the kings of England and France. In medieval times these were often one and the same.
There was a major restoration at the end of the 19th Century but the structure has changed little since then.

This will be the perfect place to escape the pressures of the 21st Century but with access to all modern conveniences. Guests will have a wealth of activities available, such as horse riding, quad bikes, and organised shoots.
It’s just the place for that special wedding or corporate event. We’re delighted to include Château Capbourteil in our selection.
