The regal splendour of Carcassonne lies just 11 miles away. Aside from the proximity of the airport, the magnificent, fortified citadel offers all manner of restaurants and outdoor cafés. Spectacular summer cultural events and unmissable firework display on Bastille Day (July 14th).

Local Information

The village of Montclar is situated 11 miles south of Carcassonne and 6 miles north of the charming town of Limoux (famous for its sparkling Champagne-style wine).

Local campsite (5 minute walk, 1 minute drive) has small store for bread and most provisions (not open all year). The campsite also has a restaurant.
Further shops at Rouffiac and Pomas (5km) or Preixhan (7km).

Carcassonne with almost endless activities; superb restaurants and café bars, concerts, festivals, medieval shows, sound and light displays.

Beautiful countryside for walking or hiking. Canal du Midi with its shady tree-lined tow-path ideal for cycling and long waterside lunches at local
auberges and restaurants. Many historic sites to see including the famous Cathar trail. Visit St Hilaire 8km with its ancient abbey, part of the Cathar trail.

Superb wine country! Visit the domains of the famous Minervois and Corbieres appellations. Gastronomic delights everywhere.
Famous chef, John Burton Race filmed his TV series 'French Leave' in the area.

Mediterranean beaches lie just 60 minutes away. Long sandy beaches at Narbonne Plage with excellent opportunities for water sports and windsurfing.

The Spanish border is just 90 minutes away.
