Local Information
The property is situated in open countryside less than 15 minutes from Limoux, 30 mln south of Carcassonne.
All amenities in the pretty market town of Limoux, including charming town square with many pavement café bars and restaurants.
Supermarket, grocery and bakery stores and pharmacy and banks etc.
Mirepoix, a Medieval market town is a 30 minute drive away and Monday’s is market day. The square is surrounded by wooden buildings guarded with carved gargoyles – a photographer’s delight.
Carcassonne, the capital of the Aude Region, has the largest walled Medieval fortress and city in Europe and is a major tourist destination in the summer. Many movies about the Crusaders and Medieval knights were filmed there, including the movie Robin Hood staring Kevin Costner. Restaurants and shops selling local goods fill the ancient Cite and on Bastille Day, July 14, the fireworks are the most spectacular in all of France.
Beautiful countryside for walking or hiking. Canal du Midi with its shady tree-lined tow-path ideal for cycling and long waterside lunches at local auberges and restaurants. Many historic sites to see including the famous Cathar trail. Visit St Hilaire 8km with its ancient abbey, part of the Cathar trail.
Visit the domains of the famous Minervois and Corbieres appellations. Gastronomic delights everywhere. Famous chef, John Burton Race filmed his TV series 'French Leave' in the area.
Mediterranean beaches lie just 60 minutes away. Long sandy beaches at Peyriac de Mer with excellent opportunities for water sports and windsurfing.
The Spanish border is just 90 minutes away.
