Local Information

Arles is one of the most fascinating, beautiful, picturesque, historical places you will ever visit...

The property is situated in the heart of the town of the town, directly across from the historic, Roman Amphitheatre.

Arles is a superb, Provençal town located on the edge of the Camargue National Park, close to Avignon, Aix-en-Provence and Nimes.
Lovely, Mediterranean beaches less than 40 min away at Saintes Maries de la Mer.

The picturesque town sits on the side of the Rhone river with its red roofs and Roman Amphitheatre creating a spectacular aerial view.
On the ground, it's a wonderful place to experience real, Provençal life without the commercialism that exists in other parts of Provence.

The Van Gogh connection is obviously a strong reason to come and visit. The artist came to Arles in 1888 and painted some of his most famous paintings during his stay. The Romans also came and enjoyed their stay; constructing some stunning buildings which still stand and remain the focal points of the town. The Roman Amphitheatre is the main attraction and is undergoing sympathetic restoration. Bullfights are held regularly as well as other cultural events including headline pop and rock concerts.

Aside from the Roman architecture, the winding streets are fascinating, hiding traditional shops, chic boutiques and numerous traditional restaurants.
There is no better place to spend the evening than in the 'Place du Forum' - a large open square filled with restaurants and café bars.

The Cathedral of St Trophime, with its magnificent doorway depicting the Last Judgment carved in stone and its beautiful cloisters, is open to the public for visits and Sunday services.

Arles also boasts one of the regions finest markets every Wednesday and Friday. Overflowing with Provençal goodies - fruits and vegetables, lavender products, soaps, olives, flowers, honey... The list is endless and makes the Arles market an event not to be missed!

One of France’s premier tourist attractions, Les Baux lies just 30 mins away; an 11th century village built into the rocks.

The famous and picturesque village of St Remy is just 30 min away, while Avignon is less than 45min away. Here you’ll find the wonderful ‘Pope’s Palace’ - the former home of the Pope which really is spectacular. And the infamous ‘half-bridge’!

The lovely Camargue National Park lies close by. You really will see black bulls, pink flamingos and white horses. Many horse and pony-trekking ranches and great choice of Mediterranean beaches.

Lovely Mediterranean beaches at Les Saintes Maries de la Mer, 40 min.
