Bourzac Gite
Introduction
This gîte is part of a typical French farmhouse situated in beautiful, unspoilt countryside, enjoying fantastic views of rolling hills, corn & sunflower fields & a slow pace of life.
The gîte, lying between the owners farmhouse and a beautiful old barn, has been recently renovated to provide a high standard of accommodation.
Inside, amazing oak roof timbers, beautiful stone fireplace, old oak floors, whilst outside there’s the large courtyard around which the numerous barns & pigeonnier sit, shaded by an old lime tree.
The newly built 10m x 5m pool with roman steps has its own enclosed garden, with terrace, sun loungers, BBQ & dining area under a shaded pergola.
8 acres of private grounds. 14ft trampoline, table tennis.
Note: the property owners try to be as self sufficient as possible. They have a large vegetable plot and an orchard, as well as free-range (but contained!) hens and a small flock of sheep (8 lovely lambs at the moment).

Map & local information
The property is situated on a hillside with spectacular views 2km from the village of Nanteuil Auriac de Bourzac.
Verteillac lies close by for basic shopping requirements & bank, post office, bars/restaurants, doctor pharmacy, garage, tourist information.
Just 15kms away is Riberac, renowned for its busy Friday market, or in the other direction, Villebois Lavalette, both having good supermarkets & other town amenities.
Within easy reach is Brantome, a delightful riverside town with prehistoric caves, a magnificent Benedictine abbey & canoeing along the river, whilst Aubeterre, a beautiful hillside village with its Monolithic church, arty shops & river beach lies SW into the Charente.
The cities of Angouleme & Perigueux are both within an hours drive, offering an abundance of both sightseeing & shopping opportunities. Further afield take a day out to explore Cognac (70km), Bergerac (75km), the vineyards of St Emilion (80km), or visit the city of Bordeaux (120km).
Not to be missed is market day in Riberac on Friday or you could go to Villebois Lavalette for their modest market on a Saturday morning under an incredible old oak structure, where you can join in with the locals eating oysters with beer.
The Perigord region is renowned for its quality food and wines and there are numerous good yet affordable restaurants locally. Typically a four or five course lunch costs between 10 and 12 Euros, often with wine included!
For the serious wine lover, Bergerac is just over an hours drive away or you could take a day trip to St Emilion (1hr45mins) or Bordeaux (2hrs). Cognac is another interesting day out where you can take a tour around one of several brandy houses and then take a wander around the shops or along the river.
Activities:
For the more energetic there are plenty of outdoor activities. Try canoeing along the river from Brantome, the little Venice of the Dordogne, to Bordeilles with its fortified Châteaux, or explore the quiet but well signed lanes by bike or on foot.
Several river beaches are within easy reach where the children can play in the sand & swim or you could visit Lake Jemaye, well worth the 40 minute drive, where there's a beach with bars & restaurants overlooking the waterfront & safe paddling & swimming areas (life guards at peak times).
