Map & local information
The property is located on the edge small village 20 min east of Sarlat. It sits high above the village, approx 15 min to centre.
Cazoulès is possibly one of the most picturesque and scenic areas in the South West of France. The village of Cazoulès only houses the basic essentials, a fine boulangerie (bakers) where bread is still made in wood fired ovens, two auberges, a post office, a tennis court and a church.
All amenities (supermarket, shops, restaurants etc) in Souillac, 5 min. Daily morning market.
Sarlat, 20 min has been restored to its 17th century magnificence with such perfection that it is lit at night by gas lamps. Here there is so much to see and do. Shops, pavement cafés and restaurants and one of the best markets you will ever experience takes place here every Saturday and Wednesday with lots of local produce including walnuts, black truffles, wild mushrooms, and a wide variety of cheeses and smoked hams.
The Valley of the Dordogne:
Possibly one of the most stunning and beautiful regions in the whole of the South West of France. You can experience this magnificent region of the Perigord Noir either by car, or if you are feeling energetic, by kayak. If you decide to take the car, from Cazoulès, take the road towards Sarlat. Pass through the villages of Rouffillac and Calviac en Perigord and just after Calviac, take the road left signposted Carsac. The road follows the river through the villages of Aillac and Carsac. At Carsac, take the road signposted La Roque Gageac. Here the Château de Montfort comes into view along the stretch of the Dordogne known as the Cingle de Montfort, there is a small parking area by the road side, where you an enjoy the spectacular views.
Continue along the road past the Château at Montfort at Vitrac. For anybody keen on golf, you can find a very well groomed 9 hole golf course running along the Dordogne on your left hand side. Just after the golf course, at the tee junction, turn left heading towards La Roque Gageac and continue along the road to the village of Cenac. In the village centre, turn left towards the remarkable Bastide city of Domme. Parking can be difficult especially during July and August, but out of season, you can park within the walls of the city. If you want to be spoiled, have lunch at the Hotel de l'Esplanade - wonderful food and incredible views. Domme, known as the Acropolis of the Dordogne, is remarkably situated on a cliff overlooking the Dordogne Valley. The incredible site has inspired numerous artists including the writer, Henry Miller.
Backtrack through Cenac over the river bridge and turn left signposted La Roque Gageac. When you arrive at La Roque Gageac, you will see another spectacular site with the village houses huddled against a cliff which drops vertically to the River Dordogne. From here, you are within a stone's throw from the châteaux of Beynac, Castelnaud and Les Milandes and Les Jardins de Marqueyssac, a 54 acre garden to explore with beautiful views over the river. The château of Castelnaud is definitely worth a visit, as is Les Milandes, the former home of the well known American singer/dancer, Josephine Baker.
From La Roque Gageac, continue along the river road to Beynac, yet another spectacular site on the banks of the River Dordogne. Continuing a further 10 kilometres you will arrive at the small market town of Saint Cyprien (Sunday morning market). From here your return drive back to Cazoulès is around 45 minutes.
Quercy
Taking the road to the east of Cazoulès, you very quickly arrive in the market town of Souillac. Although Souillac is in the Valley of the Dordogne, it is in the Department of the Lot, which was known as Quercy in ancient times. Take the road from Souillac to Martel, a lovely old medieval town full of character and wonderful architecture. The market here is on Saturday morning.
Leave Martel on the D43 and head for Carennac. A stop here for lunch at the Hostellerie Fénelon could be very worthwhile but allow enough time to explore this very beautiful riverside village.
Other wonderful places to visit in this region are Autoire, Padirac, with its magnificent grotto, enjoy a cool trip along the underground river and Rocamadour.
The unbelievably beautiful village of Rocamadour - a cliff-hugging medieval village that was built on a limestone cliff rising 490 feet above the Alzou canyon. Along with St Cirq La Popie, this is one of the most extraordinary settings in France. You will need at least one day here if you want to take it all in. A good tip is to take lunch at the Lion d'Or which has its own private car park right by the old city gate. Otherwise, in high summer, leave your car in the valley and take the little train into the city. Be sure to visit the Cité Religieuse and remember to climb the steps on your knees, like the pilgrims of old.
Other Places of Interest
Montignac in the Valley of the Vézère and the world famous Grottes de Lascaux with their prehistoric cave paintings. Close by is the incredible village of Les Eyzies. Sometimes referred to as the "Capital of Prehistory". The village lies in a grandiose setting of steep cliffs at the junction of the rivers Vézère and Beune and shelters cut out of the cliff walls served as homes for prehistoric people.

"Our week in La Maison Blanche was perfect. We spent each day lounging by the beautiful pool overlooking the stunning valley and each night on the balcony drinking red wine and trying to eat france out of cheese. The weather was spectacular and although the days were hot the house stayed surprisingly cool. This was fantastic as we were traveling with a 8 month old baby. Tony and Pam were the perfect hosts and made our week even more memorable. I will definitely recommend this property to family and friends and hopefully will be able to return."
Richard, Australia
"We have just returned from a weeks stay in La Maison Blanche and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. The accommodation is excellent - all rooms are en-suite and the house is very well equipped. The views from the house are spectacular and there are some beautiful walks to explore on your doorstep. The boulangerie in Cazoules has wonderful bread and croissants and you can eat these safe in the knowledge that you are exercising them off on the walk back to the house! We spent many an afternoon sitting on the terrace just watching the birds of prey swooping over the valley. The house is brilliantly located for the must-see tourist sites such as Rocamadour, Sarlat and Domme and we spent a fun day canoeing on the Dordogne. There are some superb restaurants within a short drive too. Waking up and watching the mist clear over the valley was really beautiful. The owners made every effort to ensure that our holiday was special and all of this made our holiday one to remember for many years to come."

"On behalf of a very happy family, I just wanted to say thank you for a wonderful stay at La Maison Blanche. Your description on-line is exactly as the house is, and we loved it! From our arrival and your warm greeting, to... the comfort of the country home, enjoyment and fun we had over the two weeks, the sun, the pool, and of course 'the Croissants’; we would highly recommend a stay here.
Having ensuite bathrooms for each bedroom was perfect, the different dining areas worked really well - breakfast on the terrace, lunch by the pool and supper - where ever, worked really well!
We did a canoe trip down the Dordogne - fabulous, a few drives through the local area - beautiful, shopping in Brive. Visited a couple of couple of chateau's and their gardens - wonderful, walks around the area and to the river and mostly... we loved staying at 'home'. We didn't even watch tv, and that was with 2 14yr olds! (we did take and use our Wii though).
Simply - we spent time around the pool as a family, relaxing and enjoying not having anything to do, other than collect the crossiants (highly recommend the bakery in St Julian de Lampon), food shopping in Souillac, tanning and doing nothing. We did love the books, and read a number of them during our stay - thanks. It felt like 'our home' for a couple of weeks - wonderful."
Caroline and Paul, Suffolk, UK
"We spent a week at La Maison Blanche with family - we were a large group, teenage son, adult son with girlfriend and adult daughter with husband, and everyone enjoyed themselves tremendously.
The house is nicely situated for excursions to the many sights and attractions of the Perigord Noir.
The house itself is very comfortable and clean - the ensuite bathrooms are a real bonus when traveling with a large crew!
The saltwater pool was a treat for all - it truly beats the heat.
Thank you to our helpful and accommodating hosts who always had suggestions for great restaurants and activities!"
Amy & Peter, Montreal, Canada
"We had a great week staying with our 3 teenagers, who all enjoyed the pool, spacious bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms.
The villa is well furnished, with wonderful views across the valley. Pool is clean and well maintained, with excellent outdoor furniture and sun shades. We also enjoyed the table tennis table.
The owners are very helpful and welcoming. Enjoyed canoeing on the river, caves at Lacave and visiting Rocamadour. Also excellent lake with beach about 40 minute drive away near Brive. We traveled by Eurostar to Paris and then SNCF train to Brive which worked well.
We may well return again, highly recommended."
Anne and Chris, Herts
"A group of six of us (all over 60's) shared this accommodation for two weeks.
It is a well furnished, comfortable house, and every bedroom has its own en-suite; we found it perfect for our requirements.
The lovely pool was a great asset and there are plenty of loungers, parasols etc on the terrace. The owners are only too willing to help you with anything you may require.
We would all be happy to spend another holiday in La Maison Blanche."
Joyce & Harry, Kent, UK
"La Maison Blanche is actually exactly as described in the advert - there are no disappointments upon arrival.
The bedrooms all have en-suites and are very well furnished.
Downstairs is cool and spacious with well-equipped kitchen. There is a satellite TV. We would have liked internet but that was not a particular problem. The pool area is in full sun and there are plenty of loungers - there is even a spot for quiet but shady reading overlooking the pool.
The owners are accessible and accommodating. I heartily recommend this beautiful home."
