Map & local information
The property is situated in a tiny hamlet, 5 min from Vergt, 30 min from Bergerac and Périgueux.
All amenities in Vergt with supermarket and café bar restaurants etc.
All amenities in Périgueux 20 min and Bergerac 30 min. Great shopping and huge choice of traditional café bars and restaurants. Périgueux is the very elegant renaissance capital of Périgord. Bergerac was once a flourishing port for the wine trade. It still today has a picturesque harbor where you can take a boat trip along the river Dordogne, or a miniature train ride around the ancient town, viewing the many half timbered houses with terracotta decoration.
Thanks to the central location of the property, the best-known cultural, (pre)historic and natural sites of the region of the Dordogne are all easily accessible.
Close to Vergt, the Napoleon Museum at the Château de la Pommerie opens its private collection of souvenirs of the Imperial Family. Over five hundred objects, paintings and sculptures of which 150 are listed with the Historical Monuments, are shown by a direct descendant of the Bonaparte family in their 18th century castle.
The castle of Beynac (45 minutes) is one of the most famous in France and was used by many historic film makers. On the other bank of the Dordogne River, it is faced by the Château Castelnaud, which is great for the kids; it still has great canon ball holes in the side walls from an attack, and a removable wooden stair case. Open all day every day in July / August.
Sarlat-la-Canéda is really worth a visit. In the heart of the Perigord Noir, Sarlat grew up around a Benedictine abbey founded in the 9th century. It has a distinct medieval feel about it, with numerous magnificent buildings around every corner you turn. The town's Saturday market is also a main feature with its truffles, foie gras and mushrooms (depending on the season).
Les Eyzies de Tayac is an archaeologist's paradise with many caves containing prehistoric paintings and deposits.
Lascaux the famous cave was only discovered in 1940, by four young boys whose dog had fallen down a hole. The cave is made up of four galleries, the walls of which are covered with more than 1500 representations, either engraved or painted. Lascaux II is a replica of two of the galleries. The artist Monique Peytral used the same methods and materials as the cave artists so the atmosphere of the original cave has been made possible.
