Local Information
The property is located on the edge of the small, picturesque village of Manas in the northern part of Provence called Drome Provencale.
2 min walk into the village with its small restaurant. 5 min drive to Ceon d'Andran with banks, post office, chemist, supermarket, tobacconist, three restaurants and bars, an excellent butchers, a garage, a doctor, a dentist. The village also boasts a communal tennis court that can be reserved.
Further shops and hypermarkets etc in Montelimar, 15 min.
Lovely countryside surrounding the property with a profusion of lavender, sunflowers and wheat fields and vineyards.
Montboucher, 15 min for 18 hole golf course with a club house, bar and gourmet restaurant.
Heading out eastwards there are several places along the river Drome that offer canoeing and kayaking for hire.
Continue along the route to Die (pronounced Dee) and you will drive into Majestic Vercor's national park with its high mountains forests and caves.
One only needs to be a little more adventurous and take the “route de vin” route of wine, to discover many more places of interest.
At Grignan there is the beautiful old chateau where the famous Madame de Sevigne wrote all of her letters about the French court. During the summer the chateau is the setting for a festival of plays and concerts.
Close by at Nyons there is as wonderful Provencal market each Thursday and an artesian market each Sunday.
A little further south but not to be missed is the city of Avignon, with its famous bridge and the Popes Palace which dates back to the middle ages.
In July Avignon gives itself over to Europe's largest theatre festival and during a three week period hundreds of theatres spring up to perform everything from Shakespeare to Chinese ballet.
There are two fine examples of perched villages in the area, The historical Poet Laval the medieval home of the famous Knights Templer, and Miramande a picturesque village with two good restaurants.
If you travel westward you cross the Rhone river and enter the department of Ardeche where you can discover the famous Gorge d’Ardeche –a mini Grand Canyon – and more facilities for canoeing and rafting.
If all this sounds a little hectic the alternative is to laze by the pool and watch the sun go down with a glass of your favourite Côtes de Rhone and the aroma of the barbeque to round off your day in Provence.
