Just back from another trip up to the Dordogne, primarily to meet the owner and take photos of these three separate properties about 25 minutes north of Sarlat. They are a great addition to our portfolio and will prove to be very popular in the years to come. It took Lee about 2 hours to take photos and in the meantime, I had a most enlightening conversation with the owner, Monsieur C.
We met in the local café bar at lunchtime which is always a good way to begin any relationship in France and he went on to explain that he is the president of the departmental truffle association and works as a consultant all over Europe. Much of the land that surrounds his properties is for truffle hunting (damp soil under oak trees) and in the season (primarily January), he offers specialist weekends where guests come and spend the day hunting out the valuable fungi and then preparing culinary delights in the evening, all washed down with a glass or three of the local wine. He’s a fascinating character (who spent 8 years renovating the tower) and is on hand to help and advise any rental clients who stay in any of these three properties.
His local expertise and knowledge led Lee and I to the restaurant, ‘Le Bistro de L’Octroi’ in Sarlat that evening which I can highly recommend, especially the foie gras and carpaccio of duck starter.
Restaurant Le Bistro de l'Octroi - 111, avenue de Selves 24200 Sarlat la Canéda.
