Local Information
The private residence 'Les Rives de la Tour' is situated just outside the superbly impressive, walled town of Aigues Mortes. Three minute walk to all amenities; restaurants, cafés, bars, banks, chemist, newsagent, butcher, baker, grocery shop etc.
Aigues Mortes lies on the Mediterranean coast, on the edge of the famous and spectacular Camargue national park, famous for its white horses and pink flamingos !
Montpellier airport (RyanAir and BA flights) is just 15 minutes away.
Activities in the area include:
Le Grau du Roi - fantastic and very chic Mediterranean beach resort.
Nimes - ancient Roman city with amazing amphitheatre.
Arles - an even better amphitheatre ! And the van Gogh connection. Lovely town, fantastic market on Wednesday and Saturday.
Super beaches at Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer.
La Tour Carbonnière - this ancient watchtower in the countryside was used to defend the only access to Aigues Mortes. You can enter freely, visit inside and climb to the terrace where you'll enjoy an extensive view of Aigues Mortes and the marshes of the Camargue.
Thanks to its serene climate, the country around Aigues Mortes is a paradise for a huge number of birds whether migrating or sedentary. Benefiting from a nature and vegetation unique in Europe, it is well known to ornithologists of the entire world and can be discovered on foot, on horseback, by bicycle, by safari in a Land Rover or by boat all year round.
Discover the "Petite" and "Grande Camargue" Go into this mythical region by 4wheel drive (ponds, marshes, wildlife, paddy field, Manades). Pony riding for children, horse riding to discover the Camargue. Trips by barge with commentary on the Petite Camargue waterways. Discover traditions, flora and fauna of the Camargue.
Every Wednesday and Friday (during July and August), there are Camarguaise evenings with gypsies, including dinner.
