Local Information
The medieval village of Laurens remains almost unchanged for years. Life here revolves around the local wine production; Laurens is the centre of the famous 'Faugères' appellation and has a superb outlet selling a huge range of local wines and produce. The imposing chateau in the village has the main Faugeres office where you can learn more about the wine and the region.
In the village itself, despite a population of around only 800, you'll find two bakeries, grocery store, newsagent, chemist, butcher and hairdresser.
Just 2 kms through the vines is the amazing Chateau de Grezan, independent wine-producer and superb restaurant, owned by the famous Lanson family of Champagne.
More restaurants and cafés, bank, supermarket and pizzeria in Magalas, 8 kms.
The shimmering Mediterranean and endless beaches lie just 35 kms from the house. Choose from many superb seafood restaurants along the coast; Meze and Bouzigues are particularly famous for their oysters. Similarly, Agde and Sete have fantastic harbours where you can buy fresh seafood straight from the boats.
The vibrant town of Pézenas lies just 20 minutes away. Dozens of restaurants, pavement cafés and possibly the best Saturday market in the whole of the Languedoc.
Don't miss a stroll along the Canal du Midi. Ideal in the heat of summer as the towpaths are shaded by the huge plane trees.
Béziers and Montpellier have further great restaurants and shops. Wonderful flower market in Beziers on Fridays.
