The property is located in the centre of the village of Gabian.

The medieval village of Gabian (population 661) lies in the heart of the Languedoc vineyards, between Montpellier and Béziers, 15 minutes north of Pézenas and 30 minutes from the Mediterranean beaches.

The River Thongue ebbs and flows through the medieval outskirts, and there are miles of surrounding countryside and vineyards to explore.

Activities & Culture: If you do not want to languish in the sun and swim all day, venturing out in the Hérault there is a multitude of activities on offer.

Between Marseillan and Sète, there is a 7 mile stretch of beach and the vibrant, chic resort of Cap d'Agde boasts an attractive marina, plenty of restaurants and evening entertainment.

As well as beautiful countryside, mountains and waterways surround you - nearby you have the Hérault River and the waterways of the Canal du Midi constructed in the 17th century and gently wending its way through to the Mediterranean affording a breathtaking backdrop to walking, picnic, fishing and boat excursions.

The golfing enthusiast is well served with an 18-hole golf course at Béziers and a 9-hole course at Lamalou-les-Bains, also famed for its healing spas.

The Gorges d'Héric and the river Orb valley are well worth a visit and offer a great opportunity for canoeing, bathing under the waterfalls, picnicking and much welcome shade from the summer sun.

Inland is the beautiful fresh water Lake Salagou - perfect for bathing and windsurfing and passing tranquil afternoons. And for horse lovers there are various equestrian centres at nearby villages.

Gabian is a 15 minute drive from the lively medieval market town of Pézenas, which has a street market every Saturday morning, unmissable for fabulous fresh produce, bustling with local life and street cafes.

An antique hunters' mecca, there is an abundance of antique and brocante shops to browse as well as numerous artisan shops.

This region is an antique lover's paradise and there are regular international antique fairs throughout the year at Béziers, Montpellier and Avignon etc as well as varied antique / brocante street markets.

Pézenas is well served by 4 large modern supermarkets and plenty of restaurants and pavement cafés. Culture vultures will be more than satisfied - art and music festivals are held throughout the region. During the summer the villages buzz until the early hours, and throw three-day festivals, and host meals in the street for three, four, five hundred people at a time serving fare such as spit roasted bull. These events are well advertised by posters and - all are welcome.

Mèze and Bouziques are a must for seafood lovers, where several restaurants serve daily some of the finest seafood in France.
5 minutes away in Mas Rolland is an award winning goats cheese.

History: For those wishing to follow in the footsteps of times past, the Hérault region is crammed with history and has born witness to a number of great civilisations including that of the ancient Greeks who are reputed to have imported the olive tree to this region.

And of course, the Romans too have left behind much well preserved remains evident in the surrounding architecture, the Via Domitia highway and the great Pont du Gard viaduct.

There are numerous breathtakingly beautiful Châteaux open to the public in the villages surrounding Gabian.
