Local Information
The property is located in open countryside between Castillonnès and Lauzun, 20 mins from Bergerac.
All amenities and farmers market in the bastide town of Castillonnes, the small local town only 5 km away. It provides all the necessities of life with two small, but well stocked, supermarkets, bakers, butchers, cafes and other small shops as well as a cinema, (which quite often shows the latest films in English), and several excellent restaurants, including Les Remparts, serving exceptional food.
The area is well provided for shops, restaurants, places of interest, vineyards, wine tasting, river trips, markets in Bergerac, Issigeac, Duras, Eymet and other local villages. In the summer many have delightful night markets to sample local wines and produce. There are pretty walks and of course the mountain bikes for the more energetic.
Bergerac is 20 minutes away where you can explore more of the vineyards and activities such as the water theme park and water sports.
Great swimming in the nearby lake in Lougratte. This lake has a small beach, pedalos, canoes etc and is very popular, with plenty of other children to keep everyone occupied... You can picnic on the grass or under the trees.
Tennis courts are available in the nearby towns of Castillonnes and Lauzun.
Other local towns include the Bastide towns of Eymet, Monflanquin, Miramont-en-Guyenne, Villereal and the pretty town of Lauzun all with good restaurants and weekly farmers markets.
The Dordogne River is very good for fishing, canoeing and other activities. There are also many local facilities for riding, golf, tennis and walking.
There are many interesting places to visit. The renowned prehistoric sites in the eastern Dordogne, cave paintings at Lascaux, especially, roc St Christophe and various old cave dwellings, and many other minor caves with wall paintings, etc. There are also the very pretty towns of Sarlat, Domme set on top of a hill, Roque Gageac on a cliff beside the river.
