Local Information

The property is located in woodland 2 km from the lovely village of Signes.

Signes is a typically picturesque, Provençal village 15 mins east of Aubagne and 30 mins from the Mediterranean coast, (Bandol, St Cyr and Cassis etc).

The village of Signes has all amenities;
Pharmacy, Butcher, Bakers, 2 small grocers, Wine / olive oil shop, 3 café bars, 2 restaurants

Very good pizza van Thursday - Saturday (wood burning stove in the van)

Tennis courts, Horse riding, Quad bike rental and accompanied excursions, Skateboard park, Playground for small children (for the under fives)
Horse-riding, tennis courts and para-gliding! Large program of summer cultural events.

Three miles from the village centre is the Château de Cancerilles – producer of fine wines and giving an opportunity to enjoy a short wine tasting session.

Further shops and hypermarkets in Aubagne.

The villa is surrounded by beautiful Provençal countryside; woodland, garrigues and vineyards and fruit orchards.

Many interesting villages to discover, including Templar history and the famous convent of St. Baume.

For the children, the fantastic theme park 'OK CORRAL' is just 10 minutes away and includes all manner of rides and activities.

Large Aqua Park in St Cyr on the coast.

Toulon - 25 minutes
Not just a naval port but a very good shopping centre. There are plenty of small restaurants on the waterfront. There are boat trips around the harbour.

Aix-en-Provence - 45 minutes
Originally a Roman Town – more recently the home of Cezanne. Still a beautiful town with a maze of narrow winding streets with tiny boutiques and cafés. There is a large market nearly every weekday.

Marseille - 35 minutes
Visit the Quai de la Fraternité (formerly the Quai des Belges) early in the morning to see an amazing fish market. Or try a real bouillabaisse in one of the restaurants near the Marché des Huiles. Boats leave the Quai de la Fraternité for the Château d’If made famous by Alexander Dumas in the Count of Monte Cristo.

Nimes - 90 minutes
A town full of Roman remains including the massive amphitheatre that is in a better condition than the Coliseum in Rome. Still used for concerts and even the occasional bullfight.

Avignon - 80 minutes
Famous for the half-destroyed St Bénezet, but offering much more. The Papal Palace is the largest Gothic palace in the world. There are also numerous options for short cruises on the river Rhône.

Bandol - 25 minutes
A pretty port with many restaurants and boutiques as well as a casino. There are regular boat trips to the Calanques of Cassis the local equivalent of the Norwegian fjords. .

Isle of Embiez
A short ferry trip from Le Brusc (near Sanary-sur-Mer), the Island is the home to the Paul Ricard Institute and has an art gallery (mainly of the work of Paul Ricard himself), picnic areas and a maze of footpaths that take you all round
the small island.
There are several restaurants and it is possible to take a trip in a submersible craft to visit the sea bed!

Gorges of Verdon - 2 hours
The only larger gorge is the Grand Canyon! It is possible to travel along the North and South sides of the Gorge in a sort of round trip. A really beautiful full day trip.

Le Castellet - 15 minutes
A medieval hill village with tiny winding lanes full of bistros and boutiques.

La Cadiere d’Azur - 20 minutes
Another medieval hill village slightly less developed than Le Castellet. However la Cadiere is the home of the Hostellerie Berard – said by some to be the finest restaurant in the South of France!

St. Baume - 25 minutes
This is the large ridge that can be seen to the North of the villa. Near the top of the ridge is a Convent that has been run by Dominican nuns for the last seven centuries - although it was established some 2000 years ago - allegedly by Mary Magdalene.

High on the ridge itself is the cave that originally housed that convent. In the basilica of St. Maximum - a further 20 minutes to the North - is a very simple sarcophagus that is said to contain the remains of Mary Magdalene (not the Louvre as suggested by Dan Brown….).

Monte Carlo - 2 hours 15 minutes
Playground of the rich and famous...

Circuit du Soleil - 20 minutes
A small “kart track” where it is possible to rent karts or quad bikes.

Lovely beaches at Les Lecques and one of the prettiest Mediterranean villages, Cassis with its harbour and promenade. Huge choice of restaurants. Beach and boat trips around the 'Calanques' (the stunning rocky inlets).

Marseille Airport - 1 hour.
Nice Airport - 1 hour 45 minutes.
Toulon-Hyeres Airport - 35 minutes.
