Location

Saint-Rémy-de-Provence

Featured in The Times - Grand times with the grandkids

The property is situated in open countryside almost midway between Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (5 km) and Saint-Étienne-du-Grès (3 km).

2 lovely restaurants less than 10 minutes walk.

Saint-Étienne is a picturesque small village with a bakery, butcher and restaurants.

Saint-Rémy is one of the loveliest towns in the whole of Provence. All amenities and huge choice of traditional restaurants and pavement cafés and bars. Magnificent tree-lined boulevards and winding streets make this one of the most sought-after towns in France.

Unmissable street market every Wednesday.

The countryside surrounding Saint-Rémy is quite beautiful and typically Provençal; garrigues full of wild herbs and olive trees.

One of France's premier tourist attractions, Les Baux lies just 10 minutes away; an 11th century village built into the rocks.

The Roman town of Arles is also only a 10 minutes drive. Many Roman and Romanesque monuments are still in use today; the amphitheatre provides the setting for bullfights and concerts, and what remains of the theatre plays host to formal concerts and traditional folk festivities throughout the year. The Cathédrale Saint-Trophime, with its magnificent doorway depicting the Last Judgement carved in stone and its beautiful cloisters, is open to the public for visits and Sunday services.
The necropolis, or Alyscamps, is today a narrow, tree-lined avenue, located just outside the old town.

Many lovely restaurants and pavement cafés. Van Gogh spent two years of his life here, so there are many related tours and souvenirs to be found.

Arles also boasts one of the regions finest markets every Wednesday and Saturday. Overflowing with Provençal goodies - fruits and vegetables, lavender products, soaps, olives, flowers, honey...The list is endless and makes the Arles market an event not to be missed!

Also not to be missed is a day out to Avignon to discover the winding streets and lovely Provençal shops. Here you'll find the wonderful 'Pope's Palace' - the former home of the Pope which really is spectacular. And the infamous ‘half-bridge’!

Spectacular, fortified town of Aigues-Mortes 40 minutes.

Just over an hour to the Mediterranean coast (lovely beaches and town of Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer).

For wine lovers, this is paradise; domaines and tasting almost on every corner.

The lovely Camargue National Park lies close by. You really will see black bulls, pink flamingos and white horses. Many horse and pony-trekking ranches and great choice of Mediterranean beaches.

Reviews

Feedback from previous guests

We are a Canadian family of 10, including 3 generations and this was a long planned celebratory family vacation in Provence. This home is very centrally located and yet beautifully quiet and secluded. The pool and grounds were really well kept and very much enjoyed, as it was very warm weather. The decor is very tasteful, and also comfortable and relaxed. We could take lots of wonderful day trips and within 15 min to 1 hour be in St Remy, Les Beaux, Gordes, Avignon, Arles, and Aix en Provence, as well as other surrounding points of interest and small towns. The markets were great fun. Sandra arranged an excellent cook for us for the few evenings we wanted and we also enjoyed picking up our own provisions and cooking ourselves in the modern and well equipped kitchen. The local French produce, cheeses and wines are so fresh and delicious and easy to find. Sandra was very helpful in recommending markets and restaurants. Also if we had any questions Sandra was extremely responsive. An electrical storm caused a problem with the stove top and she had it repaired immediately. We also found it was great to have 2 master suites with air-conditioning as this made it easier for the 2 babies to nap and sleep. When we were there, one week was unusually hot but we were able to keep the 'Mas' cool by closing shutters during the day and opening them up in the evening when the air cooled considerably. We loved dining 'al fresco' outside every night in the lovely outdoor dining area. And the dining room inside is great also with lots of room for all. Other conveniences included 2 large fridges which accommodated all our needs as a family of 10, as well as excellent laundry machines so we could refresh our clothes and towels easily. The housekeeping help were also very pleasant and thorough. We felt very well cared for and had a fabulous time relaxing and enjoying the sound of the cicadas as well as exploring so many wonderful historical sites and natural treasures such as the Camargue bird sanctuary with flamingos, fields of sunflowers and lavender, the wonderful plane trees lining so many roads, the Luberon valley surrounded by mountains and huge rocky outcrops - all made this trip full of great memories and wonderful experiences that delighted all the senses. It was also so easy to travel there by high speed train from Paris, pick up cars at the train station, and we were there within 30 minutes settling in. We would highly recommend.

What a fabulous holiday home - an amazing find. The owners are great and supportive and have done a brilliant job of maintaining this lovely, sizable holiday home.
The house itself is clean, stylishly furnished and contains everything you need. The owners have really thought about what a family needs and have done their best to provide a comfortable and easy living experience.
I highly recommend this property to anybody looking for something great!

Three generations of our family spent a magical week in this beautiful house. It was everything we hoped it would be. We couldn't have chosen better! Fully equipped kitchen, luxurious bathrooms, comfortable beds, perfect location for trips to the surrounding towns, villages and attractions. Swimming pool - which we made use of every day. I would recommend it to anyone and would go back in a heartbeat!

When I first saw this property on the website, I knew I wanted to spend my 40th there. When I arrived, I didn't expect to be even more taken a back by it's beauty. This house was absolutely perfect for my group, with three different eating areas, and well positioned bedrooms. The house is located in a quiet area off the beaten track, but still close enough to the town, and vineyards. The property was very clean and well maintained. I definitely would love to book this house again, it really is a gem in amongst the French countryside.

We spent a week as a family of three generations in Maison Rousty and had an absolutely wonderful time. The house is beautifully decorated with lots of little touches that make it feel like a home rather than a rental property. We spent a great deal of time by the pool in the lovely gardens which surround Maison Rousty and which are all very well maintained. We enjoyed barbeques in the evening sitting in a perfect spot close to house from which to soak up the last of the evening sunshine. The owners, Sandra and Andrew could not be more helpful. We had email correspondence before our arrival with directions from the airport, various tips on the nearest supermarkets and restaurants, and Sandra arranged for a taxi to pick up our son and girlfriend in Marseille as they were joining us a day later. We were greeted warmly at Maison Rousty by Sandra who showed us around and supplied a handbook of recommendations for the area. She was always available by telephone for any question we might have which was a great help. Maison Rousty is close to many attractive places to visit such as St Remy with its wonderful market, Avignon, Nimes and Les Baux but once you are behind the gates it is hard to tear yourself away from the sanctuary of the house. One week was definitely not long enough and we hope to return soon! Until then we all have wonderful memories of our time at Maison Rousty.

We've had a wonderful week staying here and taking day trips to Arles, Nimes, Orange, Isle sur la Morgue, Les Bories, Oppede le Vieux, Menerbes, La Coste, Vaison La Romaine and more.
Each night, we slept well in the quite - absolute quiet. Each morning, we enjoyed our breakfasts here (with espresso cups and every other kitchen item we needed at hand). And each evening we strolled the gardens, drank the local wines, cooked what we pleased, and felt comfortable and "at home".
We appreciated the welcome we got from Andrew and Sandra, the gift basket, the well-stocked home from teas to tissues, from soaps to candles) - and the fact that everything is well maintained and, even, well-explained.
So .... a stylish place to stay .... which we truly enjoyed and which we will recommend. Thank you!

We came from faraway to Provence for a stay. We enjoyed the pool and Mas La Beluga. Savoured amazing local food and wines. Explored far and wide. We are sad to leave but will take with us wonderful memories. Thank you Sandra and Andrew for your kind hospitality.

I wanted to let you know directly how much of a success staying at Maison Rousty was. We had a great time. The house itself was lovely – whilst keeping its Provence charm it was also extremely comfortable / modern inside. Similarly the pool area was perfect combining a decent amount of outside space to allow the children to run around etc. It has been very nicely done and well thought through. Perfect for both adults and young children. I would also remark that Sandra was extremely helpful throughout. It is also worth noting that the guide book that came with the house was very helpful. I think we all felt it went that Sandra went the extra mile. I will come back regarding next year.
