Location

The property is situated just outside the village of Sauveterre-la-Lemance (2 km), in the Southern Dordogne, between Fumel and Belvès.

Amenities in Sauveterre, lovely countryside all around with excellent shops, restaurants and supermarkets in Fumel, Belvès, Beaumont and Monflanquin.

The Dordogne area of France is one of the most beautiful and one of the most popular. Lovely countryside interspersed with medieval, bastide towns and fairytale châteaux rise from the morning mist.

It's a great region for food lovers; all the Périgordian specialities such as Foie Gras, confit d'oie and canard, mushrooms of all types are in abundance.

Many antique markets throughout the year. All info at the tourist information office.

Bergerac (50 minutes) was once a flourishing port for the wine trade. It still today has a picturesque harbour where you can take a boat trip along the river Dordogne, or a miniature train ride around the Bastide town, viewing the many half timbered houses with terracotta decoration.

The many timbered houses with terracotta decoration that line the lanes of the old town, are wonderfully evocative of the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. On one corner the wanderer suddenly finds himself "nose to nose" with Cyrano whose statue proudly reminds the visitor that Bergerac owes some of its fame to this historic figure. Not surprisingly the annual theatre "Le Festival du Théâtre" is named after him.

A great way to tour the vineyards is by following the designated Route des vins where the visitor will be welcomed by the growers and encouraged to try their wines. The Bergerac region is sometimes called Périgord Pourpre the name deriving from the rich purple-red vines that characterize this area of Périgord.

When the subject of "gastronomy" is raised it is usually associated with a particular region and the Périgord stands in high regard in this field. The traditional produce, such as truffles, walnuts, strawberries and the wines, together with the well-known rich specialties derived from fattened geese and ducks, is largely responsible for this fame.

Don't miss a trip to La Roque-Gageac, a stunningly beautiful village under the towering cliffs. The village regularly wins France's "Prettiest Village" competition. Good canoeing centre here.

Competing with La Roque-Gageac in the prettiness stakes is the village of Carennac. Elevated just above the South bank of the Dordogne river, it is best known for its typical Quercy architecture and Romanesque priory. Further Romanesque art at the Saint-Pierre church in Beaulieu-sur-Dordogne.

Perhaps the most famous of the Dordogne tourist attractions are the cave paintings around Les Eyzies. There are more pre-historic caves in this area than you could ever visit in a day! Les Eyzies lies at the heart of an unspoilt area of great natural beauty with rolling hills, tranquil rivers and fascinating cliff and rock formations. It has some of the world's most beautiful caves with outstanding stalactite and stalagmite crystallizations. And the cave-lined Vézère valley has been classified as a heritage site by UNESCO. The most well-known of all is the cave at Lascaux which was discovered in 1940. The paintings date back some 17,000 years.

Sarlat-la-Canéda features the highest concentration of medieval, Renaissance and 17th century facades of any town in France. Nowadays, its a bustling market town with a huge range of outdoor café bars and restaurants.

Customer Reviews [8]

Chloe 2023
The house was amazing, we went as a group, 6 adults 2 infants and we all loved the house. The photos are true to life. The pool is lovely and perfect for kids as the deep end is still shallow enough for an adult to stand up in. The kitchen is well stocked and great to cook in, there is also a good bbq outside. The local village has a lovely boulangerie, butcher and little shop. Monpazier is only a 20 min drive and Fumel only 20 mins which has a great supermarket. Samantha is a great host, she was there for anything we needed and booked us some massages. We will definitely be returning to Samantha’s house, thank you for making our first holiday in 4 years so special.

Jpm. July 2023
Sam's place was what we were looking for for a family with kids of 12 and 10 respectively. Accessibility of the Lot Valley and Dordogne meant there were plenty of options for outings and facilities to be explored and enjoyed for adults and kids alike. Very local night markets were also a highlight of our stay. The property was very well equipped with indoor games and with equipment to enjoy the outdoor spaces. It is exceedingly quiet and peaceful with few cars passing by which makes for a very relaxing and restful environment for time spent at the property. We left feeling very well refreshed.

Calum 2023
We highly recommend this place! We stayed with a family of 8 people and had a wonderful stay. The swimming pool is great, there is a ping pong table and a big and beautiful garden. There are a lot of different terraces to sit/hangout/have lunch and dinner. The kitchen is well equipped, there's a large stove and a BBQ for outside cooking. It's quiet and there's a lot of privacy. Sam and her husband are very friendly, communicative and helpful. We rented the electric bikes for two days and enjoyed the beautiful and rustique surroundings. There's a tennis court nearby that is very easy to arrange access to. Actually, we can't think of anything against the place, its really great!

Doron, Brookline, Massachusetts
We had a great one week vacation in Maison Lemance. The house is fully equipped and you will find everything you need in the kitchen, games room for the children, great pool and even a ping-pong table. There is a big and beautiful garden that is great for the children to run around, while we were drinking wine on the balcony. The owner left us a list of recommendations for activities and restaurants in the region which was very useful. We highly recommend staying in Maison Lemance.

Emilie, Lille, France
Excellent, at all levels. We were 11 adults and 3 children and we had a wonderful stay. The location is ideal, isolated and quiet. The house is very well equipped (we particularly appreciated the presence of pool towels). The outdoor space and the equipment allowed us to fully enjoy real moments of relaxation. Sam is a very responsive host, ready to answer any questions. In summary, we highly recommend and thank Sam for his impeccable welcome!

Muriel, Cachan, France
An excellent week with the family with the little ones (2, 5, 9 years old) and adults who have enjoyed the swimming pool, the games, table tennis, volleyball... the barbecue and the many possibilities offered by the house for lunch, dinner and rest. The surrounding villages offer evening walks where you can meet producers and taste local specialties (foie gras, duck breasts, wines...). Many châteaux to visit and canoeing on the Dordogne. A good stay in a beautiful region.

Peter, UK
We had a great week at Maison Lemance in August. We were two families with grown up children and partners but there was still plenty of space for everyone. The extensive garden and terrace was ideal for outside dining and chilling out around the pool in the sunshine as well as providing more energetic activities such as table tennis, badminton and boules. With no light pollution, there was some stunning night time star gazing. The house was well equipped to accommodate and cater for our large party. For those who wanted to drag themselves away from the pool, there was plenty to do including bustling night markets and trips to Bergerac and Cahors. Sam was a terrific host and was very helpful and accommodating before and during our stay.

Francis, Australie
Very warm welcome, thank you Sam! - a house well suited for 12 - we enjoyed the peace, the garden, the swimming pool. good sleep, a well-equipped kitchen, cleanliness. Address to recommend.
