Location

The property is situated on the edge of the town of Lacapelle-Biron.

Lacapelle is located on the border of the Dordogne and Lot and Garonne départements.

Monpazier 15 minutes, is one of the Dordogne's finest fortified villages, a Bastide village in the Dordogne with history going back to the 13th century.

It boasts one of the most beautifully maintained market squares in which there are cafés, restaurants, shops and lots of markets and events.

20 minutes to Monflanquin. Bergerac 45 minutes and Sarlat-la-Canéda 60 minutes.

5 minutes walk to all amenities in the village including restaurant, bar, café, bakery, small supermarket and doctor's surgery.

Monflanquin is an old bastide town with winding streets and fabulous views. All amenities in including large supermarket, cafés, restaurants, bakeries.

The Dordogne and Lot-et-Garonne area of France is one of the most beautiful and one of the most popular. Lovely countryside interspersed with medieval, bastide towns and fairytale châteaux rise from the morning mist.

It's a great region for food lovers; all the Périgordian specialities such as Foie Gras, confit d'oie and canard, mushrooms of all types are in abundance.

Many antique markets throughout the year. All info at the tourist information office.

Bergerac (45 minutes) was once a flourishing port for the wine trade. It still today has a picturesque harbour where you can take a boat trip along the river Dordogne, or a miniature train ride around the Bastide town, viewing the many half timbered houses with terracotta decoration.

The many timbered houses with terracotta decoration that line the lanes of the old town, are wonderfully evocative of the 14th, 15th and 16th centuries. On one corner the wanderer suddenly finds himself 'nose to nose' with Cyrano whose statue proudly reminds the visitor that Bergerac owes some of its fame to this historic figure. Not surprisingly the annual theatre 'Le Festival du Théâtre' is named after him.

A great way to tour the vineyards is by following the designated Route des vins where the visitor will be welcomed by the growers and encouraged to try their wines. The Bergerac region is sometimes called Périgord Pourpre the name deriving from the rich purple-red wines that characterize this area of Périgord.

When the subject of 'gastronomy' is raised it is usually associated with a particular region and the Périgord stands in high regard in this field. The traditional produce, such as truffles, walnuts, strawberries and the wines, together with the well-known rich specialties derived from fattened geese and ducks, is largely responsible for this fame.

Don't miss a trip to La Roque-Gageac, a stunningly beautiful village under the towering cliffs. The village regularly wins France's 'Prettiest Village' competition. Good canoeing centre here.

Lacapelle-Biron, Lot-et-Garonne, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Customer Reviews [8]

We loved Maison Lauzine and the surrounding area - beautiful countryside and lots to see. Lacapelle is a good spot, as it has a shop, restaurant, tennis court and very friendly people. The property is within easy strolling distance of all the above. There was enough space for 6 of us and the property is well kitted out with everything you might need, as well as being characterfully furnished.

Beautiful large house, with everything you could wish for. Extremely well equipped and with many lovely contents. Walking distance to the village shop which is surprisingly well stocked, lovely bakery etc. Children loved the pool and the games, and the accessibility to the tennis courts and the arc en ciel activities. This was our second visit and we so hope to go next summer.

Yvonne and John, Shropshire, UK
Very impressed with house, garden and pool. Just right for the 5 of us. Village was within walking distance and had everything we needed - in fact, we needn't have gone to the supermarket on the way. Also wonderful artists within village and a great shop where you could buy honey and handmade leather goods. We left with a heavy heart and hope to return for another holiday.

Everything about the house and location was just as described, and three generations of us spent a lovely two weeks here. The house is spacious and very clean, fully equipped with everything you need and more - a real home from home. The teenagers were very happy with the pool, tennis within walking distance and the high ropes at parc en ciel also just a 10 minute walk. The 5 minute walk for bread in the morning was a lovely way to start the day. We will definitely be back - thank you!

Piers could not have been more helpful prior to our arrival. All went smoothly getting in and we were blown away by the pool and terraces. there's plenty of room inside (although we mainly only slept inside where it was lovely and cool at night) and its fully equipped with everything you might need. The village is quite sleepy but its close to the great Parc en Ciel and has a weekly market including one where you can pitch up and buy cooked food from various local farmers / pizza van / bbq etc. and wine and sit on the trestle table to enjoy. Monpazier and other nearby towns are well worth a visit and the Dordogne river is close enough for a canoe trip. We had a wonderful week relaxing, eating and drinking and splashing about in the pool. Would definitely recommend.

10 of us in all - two families: 4 adults and 6 kids from aged 13 down to 3 and there was room to spare. The house has been beautifully restored and decorated - living area and kitchen very comfortable to live in and use - fabulous eating areas inside and out - the bedrooms are spacious and there's plenty of safe outdoor space for kids to run around in. The village is classic rural France - lovely walk to the boulangerie of a morning - plenty to see and do within easy reach - all in all - a fabulous holiday retreat and great value for money - we'll be back!

Firstly it is a beautiful looking stone house adjacent to a small park. Inside is spacious with many wonderful details from the owners travels, with carved columns / beams from the subcontinent. The layout worked well with adults and kids having inside space, while the kitchen was well laid out and easy to get full use from. The kids (ages 3 - 9) loved all the space outside and the quiet roads had us felling relaxed right away. There were several options for al fresco dinning with the kids also taking us for a picnic in the park. Loved the location and the region is fantastic for walks and plenty to see and do only a shirt drive away. Loved it and will be back.

We stayed for 3 months during which time we hosted many family members and friends. The house accommodated everyone very satisfactorily and all who came enjoyed their stay. The location in the small village is wonderful and within easy travelling distance of lots of interesting places to visit - we never tired of taking new guests to revisit places we had already been to, particularly the many local markets. Everything needed was provided, the beds were comfortable and the living areas spacious. All in all, a wonderful holiday experience.
