Introduction

This lovely Provençal country house sits on the side of the hill just outside Callian village, affording it stunning, extensive views across the valley.

The beautiful and intimate, medieval village centre lies less than a 10 minutes walk from the house - ideal for the morning bread run or the late-evening return from one of many restaurants! All amenities in the village; further shops, supermarket, butcher and traditional markets within a 5 minutes drive.

The house itself is extremely private and offers three bedrooms to sleep 6. Three bathrooms (one ensuite). Superb interior design throughout with fully equipped, farmhouse-style kitchen and large living room with beamed ceiling, UK satellite TV and Wi-Fi internet.

All ground floor accommodation opens out to large, front terrace with some of the best views in all Provence; South-facing over the open countryside including the beautiful Mediterranean gardens nearby formerly belonging to the family of Jacques Cousteau.

Two separate dining terraces (breakfast and dinner!), both shaded and with those wonderful views.

Steps lead up to further terracing with table, chairs and pool area; pool 8m x 4m with sun loungers. Above the pool table and chairs, ideal for the early evening aperitif or just to sit and watch the sun set.

So much to see and do in the area. Many wonderful restaurants both in Callian village and the neighbouring villages of Montauroux, Seillans and Fayence. Activities galore with a feast of golf courses including the nearby 'Four Seasons' resort.

Mediterranean beaches and the glamour of Cannes and the Côte d'Azur lie just 30 minutes away.

Location

The property is located less than a 10 minutes walk from the traditional, Provençal village of Callian with restaurants, 2 café bars, bakery and other small shops.

Callian (population 2,465) lies 30 km North of Cannes and 22 km East of Grasse. Toulon airport (Stansted).

A large supermarket lies less than 5 minutes from the property. Superb local Farmer's Market every week. Street market in Montauroux every Tuesday.

Fayence market is Tuesday and Saturday am.

White water rafting for the more daring visitors in the Gorges du Verdon.

Golf;

There are over 30 courses within an hour's drive of the house, but you can find an outstanding 36 holes at The Four Seasons Terre Blanche resort, 5 minutes across the valley.

Biking;

There are numerous marked cycling paths in the area, but don't forget the many off road tracks through the forests as well.

Gliding;

Nearby Fayence is a European centre for gliding and you can experience the beauty of Provence from the air with a half hour 'sightseeing' tour.

Spas;

The Domaine de Fayence and the Four Seasons Resort have excellent spa facilities which are open to non residents.

Horse riding;

The local horse riding centre is only 5 minutes away and is available for lessons and trekking.

Sailing, kayaking and water sports;

Kids will love the pedalos at Lac de Saint-Cassien just 10 minutes away, but you also have the choice of sea water sports centres at Saint-Raphaël or Fréjus; kayaking on the pristine lakes of the Gorges du Verdon, or the beaches of the Côte d'Azur.

For the kids;

If they get tired of all the other activities, Marineland in Antibes and the zoo in Fréjus are always popular.

Gorges du Verdon and Lac de Sainte-Croix for breathtaking scenery.

Grasse is also the 'perfume capital of the world' and lies 30 minutes from the house. Spectacular old village with winding streets and stunning views. Excellent restaurants and cafés. Endless opportunities to sample and purchase perfume, as well as visits to the manufacturers to see the rose petals being transformed into scent. Make your own perfume too.

Visit Antibes and Juan-les-Pins, the preferred hang-outs for many celebrities. Amazing night-life with many clubs, bars and restaurants.

Nearby Saint-Tropez is perhaps the most famous beach resort in the world after Brigitte Bardot arrived in 1956 to make the film 'Et Dieu Créa la Femme'. Since then, Saint-Tropez has become synonymous with its celebrity lifestyle and Mediterranean chicness. It certainly is an appealing place; a little fishing village on the Southern shores of the Golfe de Saint-Tropez. The 'Vieux Port', with the old town rising above the Eastern quay is where you'll get the classic Saint-Tropez experience. Choose from many sidewalk cafés to just sit and watch people go by.

The village has a huge choice of shops, cafés, restaurants, picturesque squares, winding streets and beautiful architecture to admire. Lively night-life clubs and cultural events. Several beaches to choose from.

Just outside Saint-Tropez is Port-Grimaud, a charming Provençal town built in the 1960's and based on the layout of Venice; brightly coloured houses stand (and float) on private lagoons and waterways. It is a truly spectacular sight. Perfect for a gentle stroll to admire the architecture and the boats. Lots of cafés and brasserie restaurants. Boat trips leave here for a tour around the bay.

Facing Saint-Tropez across the gulf is Sainte-Maxime, a pretty and traditional Riviera town with long promenade and palm trees. Delightful stretches of Mediterranean beaches with all water sports. No better way to spend an evening than to choose one of the restaurants or bars on the waterside and just watch the boats and the lights out on the bay.

Fréjus and Saint-Raphaël are similar to Sainte-Maxime and offer further shops, markets and restaurants. Fréjus has a Roman amphitheatre and hosts many summer concerts.

Callian, Var, Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur, France

R. Gardiner (UK)
I would just like to let you know how much we enjoyed staying at Villa Esterel. The house was very comfortable, in a convenient location and the views from the terrace were superb, probably the best we have enjoyed in a holiday rental.

Merrett, Barnsley UK
We stayed at Villa Esterel for 1 week in August, a family of 4 with two teenage children. The photos on the website give a hint of what to expect, but do not fully portray the quality of the fixtures, fittings and decor throughout the property. From the moment we arrived, it was obvious that the owners have put a lot of love and care into making this a true home from home. The property is equipped with every conceivable gadget, utensil and accessory that you could ever need for a relaxing self catering break, we particularly enjoyed evening barbecues, with a glass of the local vino whilst watching the sun go down. Lots of places within the grounds of the villa to soak up the sun, and for alfresco dining. The pool provided a haven from the midday sun, and was a lovely temperature for cooling off, and family fun. Remember that this is a rural location, and you therefore share the space with the local insects. Not a problem if you come prepared with the relevant repellants, and accept the trade off for the peace and tranquility that the location provides. There are some lovely towns and villages within close proximily to the property, and well worth a visit. The coast is also very accessible, although you'll find it very hard to drag yourselves away from the villa and its beautiful setting within the village of Callian. The lane approaching the villa is narrow and steep, but helped by the fact that it is one way. It can be a little daunting at first, but you soon get used to it. It's a lovely scenic walk down the lane into the village, especially in the early morning sunshine, going to buy bread from the local boulangerie. The climb back up the lane however is very steep and I would therefore recommend taking the car for anyone with a walking disability. We take away some really happy memories of our time at Villa Esterel, a beautiful property in an idyllic location

Thanks so much for letting us use the villa. It has been a truly wonderful week and all the guys have fallen in love with the house and Callian.
We did the Bridge and the Gorge this year which I would recommend to anyone. We also met some lovely people in the village whom I hope to see again.
My thanks again for your kindness. It really is a little piece of paradise here.

The description did not prepare us for the wonderful view from the house - really magical, with great variation in the light morning, noon and evening. The house is particularly well catered for in every detail. Enjoyed different locations for breakfast, lunch and supper. Thank you for a memorable holiday.

Dennis family, UK
We have had a wonderful week in your beautiful home in Caillan. What a delightful spot! The house has been the perfect place to stay and we've loved every minute of it! Wish we'd booked another week! Maybe next year? We found the house spotlessly clean and very well equipped. The pool was fabulous, view stunning and whole area delightful. Thanks once again - this has been a lovely stay in a very comfortable home, not just a holiday cottage - we love it!

Leighton Buzzard, UK
Enjoyed every minute in this lovely villa overlooking stunning scenery. We spent most evenings playing cards as a family on the terrace, taking in the views, ambience and of course the local rosé. The house had everything a family could need. It was clean, comfortable and a delight to stay in. Thank you for letting others enjoy your French home.

Ina, Michael, Lucas and Nick, Autralia
We had a wonderful week in Provence. Your house is lovely, the view is beautiful and the weather was perfect. We loved discovering the small and charming towns perched on the hilltops - Faience, Mons and Bargemon. Thank you for sharing your house.

Had a lovely chilled week in your beautiful house. Very comfortable and well equipped. Intended eating out but so enjoyed cooking French produce all bought locally. Lots of enjoyable sightseeing, even made it to Monaco. Fabulous holiday.

Kate, Sam, Adrian, Tessa and Mia, Australia
We had a fantastic holiday in this beautiful house. It's amazingly well equipped! We loved the pool and the multiple spots to sit at outside. We found Caillan perfect for our needs. Thanks, you have a beautiful house in a great part of the world.

The Butlin family, UK
What a fabulous time we've had! His wonderful villa has exceeded all expectations and met our every need. The view has been a continual delight, changing with the time of day and always providing new stimulation. We've predominantly stayed put with a wonderful time had by all in and around the pool - but also enjoyed the fabulous house and it's lovely pictures and furnishings. Many thanks for a wonderful holiday.

I just thought it might be worth dropping you an email to say what a fantastic time we had in the villa. It really was a delight - a stunning villa with amazing views, close enough to the village to walk but far enough away to feel in the country. Everything was perfect and we wouldn't have changed a thing - apart from staying longer of course!

Horsfield family
Beautifully situated villa in the mountains at Callian with spectacular views over the valley below. Well-presented secluded property with split level terraces giving a variety of choice for meals and general relaxation. Swimming pool ideally situated for afternoon relaxing. Callian village has a small supermarket, butchers and a patisserie / boulangerie within 5 minutes walk. A small selection of cafés / bars and a couple of good restaurants. Good supermarkets and farm shops within a few minutes' drive. Be prepared for hill walking and mountain road driving! Walking especially good for the heart! Nice airport 50 minutes' drive and the coast easily reached if preferred. However we would recommend exploring the mountain villages and enjoying the ambiance and village life. Would highly recommend this lovely villa for an enjoyable holiday!
