A traditional French house with a view on a beautiful medieval village

The village Monflanquin, just south of Bergerac, is a so-called bastide village, founded in the 13th century. After thorough renovations in the nineties, Monflanquin is now one of the most beautiful villages in France (Plus Beaux Village de France) with lovely shops, nice restaurants and beautiful characteristic buildings.

Since 1256, there is a market on the main square, every Thursday morning and in July and August there are evening (food) markets also on Thursday. Situated on a hill top it overlooks the Tuscany-like landscape with sloping green hills, sunflower fields and plum orchards.

Monflanquin returns to its origins and celebrates the Medieval festivities

Once a year, always around the 15th of August, Monflanquin returns to its origins and celebrates the Medieval festivities. During two full days, all cars are banned, the inhabitants wear medieval clothes, medieval music is heard in every street, tournaments are being organized, knights on horseback wander through the village, wild boar is roasted on open fires and you can try a medieval drink. Those 'Fêtes Médiévales' are one of the biggest and most famous events in the region.

The house is situated on 10 acres of land with a garden, a pool and several terraces

Only one and a half mile south of Monflanquin, with a splendid view on the village, you can find Maison des Fleurs. This spacious stone house has been a farm for centuries and is now a holiday house for max 12 guests. The Dutch owners, Rob and Jacqueline, have renovated the place in 2001, creating 5 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a summer kitchen. The rooms and bathrooms are spacious and the owners have combined old details with modern comfort. The house is situated on 10 acres of land with a garden, a pool, several terraces, a jeu-de-boule court, a giant chessboard, a table tennis table and lots of privacy.

The owners personally welcome their guests on arrival

When the house is rented out in the summer months the owners don't live on site, but they are near by and can help or assist whenever needed. They will personally welcome their guests on arrival.

Apart form the village Monflanquin, there are many things to see and to do in the surroundings. Lovers of history can visit many medieval villages, towns and castles, also in the nearby Dordogne area.

Canoes can be rented on the Lot river and the Dordogne river

Sporty guests can hike, cycle, canoe or play golf. There are more than 400 walks in the department and in Maison des Fleurs you will find many of them, printed out. The smaller roads are perfect for cycling; you can rent bicycles, mountain bikes and electric bikes in the town Villeneuve sur Lot (at 15 km). Canoes can be rented on the Lot river, at 15 km from Monflanquin, or on the Dordogne river, at 35 km from Monflanquin. You will find the nearest golf course at 15 km.

Famous for its fruit and vegetables, plums/prunes being the most known product

The area is a must for food lovers. The department Lot-et-Garonne is famous for its fruit and vegetables, plums/prunes being the most known product. You can find fruit, vegetables, delicious cheeses, local products and wines on the markets and on farms that are open to visit and to taste. There is a great variety of restaurants for every budget.

Jacqueline and Rob can also give you information about cooking lessons or the possibility to have a cook preparing your meal at Maison des Fleurs.

Monflanquin is situated 40 km south of Bergerac Airport.
