Castle Hill Nice
Between the 11th century and 18th century, high up on a hill overlooking the bay of Nice in Provence, a medieval château and a cathedral once stood until 1706 when an attack with canon balls and an explosion in a munitions storage destroyed its structure.
Today visitors can visit the château's original site, now a park with gardens offering wonderful panoramic views of Nice harbour and the famous Promenade des Anglais.
Visitors access to the park is via either an elevator, originally tunnelled during World War II or take the walk up from Old Nice.
