In 1940, Bordeaux was in the hands of German troops. Occupying a strategic position, facing the Atlantic Ocean, the Germans decided to build a submarine base. After the war, the base attraced a few artists in the 60s.

In 2020, the city of Bordeaux entrusted the management part of the base to Culturesespaces. This included 4 water basins and is called "Bassins des Lumières". It represents the largest digital art center in the world.

An immersive experience

The Bassins host digital exhibitions. Works are projected on a large scale on the walls of this atypical place and are reflected in the 4 pools: 12m high, 110m long and 22m wide.
