Our amazing French country find

After a wet, rainy, miserable English summer, we made a last minute booking in sunny south west France. A secluded farmhouse set in the countryside with a private pool; just what we were after.

So, we took the ferry and, with a box of CDs, headed off through the French countryside. Little did we know we were heading towards the house of our dreams.

We had an amazing holiday lazing by the beautiful azure pool in the hot sunshine completely uninterrupted by the outside world, giving us the peace and tranquility to just completely relax. Even when the weather turned unseasonably cool towards the end of the week, we still had plenty to keep ourselves entertained. We had a fabulous time playing in the wonderfully equipped games room, watching DVDs from the well stocked shelf and, of course, savouring delicious wine and cheese from the local area.

We contacted Pure France to book for an even longer stay the following year

So impressed were we with this beautiful house that as soon as we returned to England we contacted Pure France to book for an even longer stay the following year. We were devastated to find that it was no longer available, as the owners were selling up, and we had to reluctantly content ourselves with searching for a different house.

Fast forward a couple of months; we stumble across the house on an estate agent’'s website and are over the moon to discover that, with a bit of “belt tightening”, making the house our own could become an achievable goal.

We became the very proud owners of this wonderful house

So a little over six months after that initial holiday, bizarrely, but amazingly, we became the very proud owners of this wonderful house, along with all its contents, and a year later we are more in love with it than ever.

There are so many things to love about this house. The amazing views out over the beautiful countryside when you wake up and open the bedroom windows in the morning; the completely secluded swimming pool set in the middle of the four acre garden and orchard; the fully equipped kitchen complete with range cooker and lovely family table big enough to get everyone around for food or games; the list goes on and on. It is simply our place to relax and reconnect.

Pretty bathroom complete with roll-top bath you can bathe in whilst looking out onto the views on a summer evening

We are particularly proud of the beautiful fabric wallpaper that line the walls of the bedrooms, giving each one its own unique character, and also the pretty bathroom complete with roll-top bath you can bathe in whilst looking out onto the views on a summer evening, preferably, with something cold and alcoholic in your hand.

Dating back to the early 1800's, this house has all the character of a quaint French farmhouse with some modern day touches. The recent addition of Wi-Fi on the terrace and by the pool, essential for keeping the kids quiet, listening to chilled tunes in the summer sun, or relaxing whilst listening to England vs Australia in the ashes test.

Should you need to get out of the hot sunshine for a few minutes, the thick stone walls and the tiled floor keeps the inside lovely and cool. Perfect for enjoying a quick nap in-front of the UK Freeview TV in the lounge, or a freshly made coffee in the kitchen.

A great bonus is the outside barn that houses a pool table, a darts board, an air hockey table, a table tennis table plus boules set and football table. A real asset if the sun dips down or the temperature drops for a few hours, or you have teenagers in your family party.

If you do wish to stretch your legs, the bottom of the garden offers plenty of nature to explore, ever changing varieties of orchids, wildflowers and insects; a secret pond, home to our resident frogs, and if you sit very quietly you may even spot our regularly visiting family of deer.

A perfect backdrop to an evening of chat, laughter and relaxation

When the sun finally does set, it gives an amazing display of colours to be enjoyed while popping the cork on the first bottle of red wine for the evening. As the sky darkens, the stars appear and the frogs start to croak in the distance, giving a perfect backdrop to an evening of chat, laughter and relaxation.

Now, emerging out of the depths of an English winter, this all feels a world away, but we know that with just a short hop on a plane, or a relaxing car journey, we will be there again.

It's clear we love our French home and our recent guests seem to be in agreement. "The perfect relaxation retreat" and "We wish we had seen this before you, we would have bought it ourselves" are just snippets of the feedback we have received.

Come and experience this little slice of paradise

We can't wait to spend more time at our house over this summer preparing the house ready for guests to come and experience this little slice of paradise.
