Villages of the Charente-Maritime

More highlights from the Charente-Maritime region.

With 4 of the most beautiful villages in France, this region is definitely worth a visit. See two of our favourite villages among other highlights.

In addition to La Flotte and Ars on Île de Ré, Charente-Maritime has two more of France’s official most beautiful villages: Mornac-sur-Seudre and Talmont-sur-Gironde. Barzan village is a major Roman port that has been excavated since the early 1990’s with baths and a temple. Saintes is pretty with a well preserved Roman amphitheatre.

The town of Royan is popular and similar to La Rochelle with a beach and plenty of restaurants. Rochefort oozes maritime history. Chatelaillon-Plage is a huge and popular beach, a little retro, a little more simple than the resorts of Royan and La Rochelle.
