Carcassonne International Festival

Enjoy music, theatre or dance in the South of France at the Carcassonne International Festival, a festival of performing arts with international acts performing in venues all over the city.

The people of Carcassonne love a good party and the city is host to many cultural and musical events creating a real buzz in the summer season.

The biggest is the Festival de Carcassonne, which attracts A-List acts such as Elton John and Sting and combines this with smaller concerts and performances including theatre and ballet over a period of several weeks in July and August.

The main venue is the Théâtre Jean-Deschamps, a small amphitheatre within the walls of the citadel with a great atmosphere and a fabulous view from every seat.

They also cram in over 80 free performances during the festival, from classical and jazz to rap and rock. These take place in the main square of the new town, Place Carnot and Square André Chénier next to the canal and train station.

A new venue was unveiled in 2015, with a capacity for 10,000 people which will become a regular stage at the festival, expanding it even further. Why not book your family holiday in Carcassonne to coincide with one of these fabulous events.
