Albi a hidden gem in the Midi-Pyrénées.

Tucked away in the Midi-Pyrénées region, the city of Albi may not be first on your list of cities to visit in France but it has much to offer the visitor, not least the stunning UNESCO listed brick cathedral.

Albi is a city like no other in France. The red brick used to build the impressive cathedral and many other buildings in the city adds a lovely warmth to the atmosphere. The centre is relatively small in scale and easy to navigate on foot, a visit to Albi makes for a great day out in the Midi-Pyrénées region.

When visiting Albi for the first time, you will want to head straight to Saint Cecilia's cathedral to see this stunning, UNESCO World Heritage listed gothic structure inside and out.

Art lovers should then head next door to visit the Toulouse-Lautrec museum. We recommend buying the city pass from the tourist information office (next door the Toulouse Lautrec museum) for the best value to see both of these sights. You can also take a guided tour to learn more about the historic sights of this lovely city.

Take a stroll around the old town and cross the river on the pont vieux for a photo opportunity of the imposing cathedral and surrounding red brick buildings.

There are many charming restaurants to choose from, dotted around the old town and also some along the river front to take advantage of the best views.

If you are on holiday in the Midi-Pyrénées, be sure to visit Albi for an interesting and relaxed day out.

You can visit Albi from our holiday rental homes in the Languedoc-Roussillon (Occitanie) and also easily from some of our Dordogne holiday properties.
