Château de Peyrepertuse a Cathar castle in the Languedoc, Occitanie

Château de Peyrepertuse in Occitanie

Enjoy the breathtaking scenery from on of the Languedoc's, most famous Cathar castles, Château de Peyrepertuse.

In complete ruins, it is the precipitous location of this castle that makes it a spectatular sight to visit. Whatever you do, don't forget your camera!

This 13th century fortress of Peyrepertuse is perched on a limestone cliff at a height of 800m, offering a stunning birds eye view of the surrounding countryside. The site has been occupied since Roman times and there is evidence of a castle being built here as early as 1070.

There is a car park at the bottom of the cliff and it is a short (approx. 15 minutes) but steep walk up to the castle.
