Monpazier

Tourism

Monpazier is one of France's most beautiful villages, a Bastide village in the Southern Dordogne with history going back to the 13th century. It boasts one of the most beautifully maintained market squares in which there are cafés, restaurants, shops and lots of markets and events.

In the square stands an intact 16th century covered market made with wooden pillars that stand on stone blocks with the town's Romanesque church built in the 13th century.

More than 30 buildings in Monpazier are listed as 'Monuments Historiques' by the French state. Walk the streets and discover Medieval houses, classical style houses and bourgeoise houses.

Summertime events include the 'flower festival' and 'medieval day'.

Monpazier has been often used as a medieval setting for French films such as Le Capitan by André Hunebelle (1960), The Musketeer by Peter Hyams (2001) and Fanfan la Tulipe by Gérard Krawczyk (2002).
