Holiday property in Dordogne on the Dronne river

Tales from the Riverbank part 2

Article

An architect-designed house on the banks of the River Dronne. You may have already seen our newly added property 'Maison Bonnes Vacances', REF 16022 - an architect-designed house on the banks of the River Dronne for this season.

What you may not realise is the huge variety of wildlife - especially birds - which live in and around the house.

Kingfishers are frequently seen from the shade of the property's Perigordian balcony - a flash of turquoise blue as they head upstream or dive from their perching branches on the riverbank. Hoopoes are visitors to the large grassed area of the garden as they hunt for insects in the evenings or early mornings. Jays and red squirrels live in the treetops and at dawn the air is filled with birdsong.

Diving waterbirds try to outdo the local anglers as they hunt for fish and you may even be lucky enough to catch sight of a rare fresh-water turtle whose main predator is wild boar. Coypus also live in riverbank burrows up and down stream though they are not popular with local farmers as they can devastate growing crops. The nearby village of Bonnes has an ancient watermill which is open to the public on certain days each year with a nature trail within its grounds.

Let us know if you see any rare sightings - we'd love to know what you spot!
