Holiday farmhouse in Montaigu-de-Quercy

Beautifully restored 18th century hilltop farmhouse in Montaigu-de-Quercy

Set on a secluded four-acre hilltop in complete privacy, Maison Couyssels is surrounded by forests, farms and orchards, with a panoramic view of the surrounding Quercy countryside.

The farmhouse, built in 1700, and adjacent 'barn' have been exquisitely restored to an intimate cottage atmosphere. Everything is made from the characteristic white Quercy stone, taken from the property's own quarry, and great care has been taken to maintain the farmhouse feel to the property with its exposed beams and antique furnishings.

Amenities include four bedrooms, three bathrooms, large open terraces, the cuisine d'été (summer kitchen) with a built in barbeque for al fresco dining, with dining table and chairs, sun room, fully modern eat-in kitchen, dining room, living room, wood stove, dressing area, common room, utility room with washer/dryer and at the rear of the property a Roman pool, excavated from the property’s former quarry and bordered by a lavender hedge. The home is centrally heated for those crisp winter mornings.

Home to some of France's greatest culinary treasures...

Maison Couyssels is in the far Northwest corner of the Tarn-et-Garonne Department. It is a rural area of farms, vineyards, orchards and forests and is home to some of France's greatest culinary treasures, such as truffles, foie gras, pâté, cèpes and game.

Lavender and sunflowers...

Among the richest farmland in France, this area produces an endless variety of grains, vegetables and fruits. Lavender and sunflowers grow effortlessly in the area.

Maison Couyssels is located on a ridge between the towns of Montaigu-de-Quercy and Roquecor.

Many lovely villages, churches and museums to explore...

The town of Montaigu-de-Quercy is only 6 minutes away. The region offers many lovely villages, churches and museums to explore, including Saint-Cirq-Lapopie (one of the most beautiful villages in France) and Rocamadour (built on sheer cliffs) and the famous prehistoric caves at Lascaux II.

Carcassonne and the Pyrenees are day trips from Barreau.

The famous 'Black Wine' of Cahors is the local beverage.

Maison Couyssels is ninety minutes North of Toulouse airport, two hours East of Bordeaux airport, and 35 minutes from the high speed TGV train station at Agen.

A wonderful holiday at what is indeed a very special place. A lovely property, location and facilities and some 'extras' that made for an extremely relaxing and care-free break for 4 generations.

What a view! What a lovely house! The whole area is so beautiful and we enjoyed the relaxing hammocks and the pretty villages.

We loved the house and surrounds, the weather was kind to us and we had a fantastic time... only disappointment was failing to finish the ping pong tournament!

We have spent a beautiful week here, loved the garden, the views, the little walks, the lavender, the table tennis, the house so well-equipped, the pool, having long leisurely breakfasts, playing boules on the gravel. We wish it could be longer!

We thoroughly enjoyed our week here at Maison Couyssels - the views are magnificent. We enjoyed breakfast in the garden, visiting local markets, exploring historic villages and the local countryside. The weather was superb - September is beautiful at Barreau. Thank you for all your good recommendations for sites and wineries. We will always treasure our week here.
