An escape from the rat race

An escape from the rat race

Article

Having spent 20 years holidaying in the Languedoc-Roussillon, the owner / architect bought this abandoned hamlet in 2003. With panoramic views of the Pyrenees – 'where the sky comes down to your ankles' - it represented an ideal opportunity to create their own escape from the rat race in London.

The main house has been rebuilt to provide a beautiful open plan ground floor area with a central fireplace. The original bergerie has been converted into a magnificent high ceilinged kitchen. Upstairs, beneath high beams, are three double bedrooms and two bathrooms.

A 10m x 5m metre salt water swimming pool and adjacent outdoor dining area provides the perfect setting for relaxation.

On the opposite site of the central courtyard, the owner has recently restored a delightful two bedroom cottage with open pool-plan ground floor providing a spacious kitchen, dining and living area.

Close proximity to the Pyrenees, the local vineyards and airports in Toulouse and Carcassonne, Gentesta provides a quiet refuge or springboard for summer activities and winter skiing.

The owners have been renting their property for two months in the summer through Pure France which easily covers the annual running costs.
