On a hill an hour's drive from Nice, Seillans is a maze of sloping cobbled alleys and tiny squares with fountaines. Above it stands the medieval castle and 11th-century church of Saint-Léger.

On the square at the entrance to the villas is Génie de la Bastille, a statue by surrealist artist Max Ernst, who fell in love with Seillans, moved here with his wife, Dorothea Tanning, and played pêtanque with locals onto is spot.

Lac de Saint-Cassien, 20 minutes is a beautiful lake with beaches and waterside restaurants. A fantastic place for kids and adults alike with kayaks, canoes and peddle boats available to hire. The lake is known to be amongst the best lakes in the region for carp fishing, should you desire a more relaxed activitiy.

Cannes, 40 minutes with its famous Croisette and lovely beaches.
