Roland Garros tennis French Open 2020

  27 Sep 2020    11 Oct 2020

The 124th annual Roland Garros tennis French Open begins on the 20th September 2020.

Since 1925 the tennis French Open has been played on courts at the Roland-Garros stadium situated in Paris and is 1 of the 4 grand slam tennis events, along with the Australian tennis Open, Wimbledon tennis and the US tennis Open held annually.

Between the years 1891 - 1907, tennis competitions have been played on a sand court surface and then in 1908 until present, tennis competitions have been played on a clay court surface.

The first tennis French Championship held in 1891 was won that year by the French man, H. Briggs. The women singles first year began in 1897. Mixed tennis doubles competition first began in 1902 with the woman's first tennis doubles beginning in 1907.

Games of tennis played on clay courts puts players under higher pressure, as the surface is a lot slower than playing on a grass / hard courts. Big server style tennis players tend to not perform as effectively on clay compared to grass / hard tennis-courts.
