The medieval village of Belcastel in the Aveyron, situated on the North bank of the Aveyron river with its stone roof tiled houses and cobbled streets is classified as 'one of the most beautiful villages in France' and is famous for Château de Belcastel, set high up on a rock.

The village has a 15th century church and a stone bridge which spans the Aveyron river.

Château de Belcastel which dates back to the 9th century, was discovered and renovated by the famous French architect, Fernand Pouillon in 1974.

Today it is open to the public. Visitors can view is original moat, courtyards, medieval chapels, prison and the panoramic views on the Aveyron river. Medieval artefacts are on display along with art galleries.

Visit the 'Museum of the Forge', in Belcastel a renovated blacksmith workshop and discover crafts of yesteryear.
