Visit the Tautavel region in the Pyrénées-Orientales.
Tautavel is a small village that smells like the south of France, in the shade of the plane trees in a café terrace, the song of the cicadas sets the atmosphere.
The museum of prehistory
Unmissable visit to the region. The museum of prehistory is a pleasant moment of discovery. You will see a reproduction of the Caune de l'Arago cave and the results of the excavations. As well as the main piece, the famous skull of the man from Tautavel, named Arago 21.
This is the oldest human skull found in France, dating back 450,000 years. It was discovered by Henry and Marie-Antoinette de Lumley in 1971.
Tautavel Man is a Homo Heidelbergensis whose features resemble early Europeans.

The Gouleyrous gorges
One of the most spectacular natural sites in the Pyrénées-Orientales.
It is known by climbers for its cliffs and you can cool off there in the summer.
A walk on the Caune d'Arago, the cliff overlooking the gorges offers a magnificent panorama.
