A maison that blends seamlessly into the rural ambiance of Gascon countryside

Settled at the apex of an orchard and surrounded by the many fruit trees of Le Grand Verger la maison blends seamlessly into the rural ambiance of the Gascon countryside.

Many have assumed this is the conversion of an original barn complex like those seen all around the beautiful verdant countryside of the Gers but it’s surprisingly a new build!

Simon an architect and his wife Nicky looked for many years to find an idyllic place to build a country house in France for family and friends to visit and eventually discovered a perfect location.

This plot of eight acres of orchard meadow and ancient vineyards proved irresistible due to its relationship with Larressingle the 13th century fortified settlement and un beau village de France and a grand site of the Occitaine.

Inspired by the setting and architecture of the region and its rural character...

The design for this completely new house is inspired by the setting and architecture of the region and its rural character. The concept is an authentic replica of a timber framed hay barn which creates a dynamic space for the family area and a contemporary two storey glazed window overlooking the medieval village of Larressingle.

Amazing views exploiting shade and sunshine and particularly the spectacular sunsets...

A further collection of new stone buildings incorporating six bedrooms and ensuite shower or bathrooms steps up the gentle slope catching sunrise but shaded from the remaining heat of the day. This individual plan is specifically arranged to suit the land contours and to maximise the amazing views exploiting shade and sunshine and particularly the spectacular sunsets.

Open-plan cooking dining and sitting area which is the focal point of the interior...

Le Grand Verger has an agricultural aesthetic carefully blended together by the imaginative use of natural stone glass porcelain oak and steel into a luxurious interior design full of interesting and attractive detail. Simon is not a chef but a big fan of Saturday Kitchen and James Martin which generated the idea for a very sociable open-plan cooking dining and sitting area which is the focal point of the interior. The foodies love preparing or helping with the meals for a hungry audience and a big team effort all around.

An abundance of apples pears cherries figs walnuts quinces and many berries and herbs...

Outside the swimming pool and terrace are a draw for sunbathing reading eating and relaxing and strolling through the orchard there are plenty of seasonal pickings from the land for Gascony recipes with an abundance of apples pears cherries figs walnuts quinces and many berries and herbs.

Simon and Nicky enjoy the experience of this unique French setting and seek to enhance the visitor enjoyment each year.

The project is a dream come true and a delight to invite family and friends for a good Gascon get together for all to enjoy.
