Carantec - a beautiful holiday destination in Brittany

Nestled in the Bay of Morlaix, Carantec is a Breton destination as peaceful as it is authentic. Less well-known than its neighbours in northern Finistère, it is no less fascinating. With its golden beaches, maritime heritage, wild islets, and sea-flavored cuisine, Carantec appeals to lovers of nature, tranquility, and beautiful panoramas. A perfect stopover to unwind in complete simplicity.

An ideal location between land and sea

Located about ten kilometres from Morlaix, Carantic benefits from an exceptional natural environment. It's here that you can enjoy both a lively village and wild coastlines, dotted with sheltered beaches and coastal paths. Facing it stretch the bay's famous islets, the most emblematic of which is Callot Island, accessible at low tide by a submersible causeway, an experience not to be missed.

Quiet beaches and sublime panoramas

Carantec offers several beaches with typical Breton charm: fine sand, turquoise waters on clear days, and rugged rocks as a backdrop. The beaches of Kélenn (ideal for families), Cosmeur, and Gève Blanche are ideal for swimming, paddleboarding, or simply relaxing. For walkers, the GR34, also known as the customs officers' path, runs along the coast and promises superb views of the bay, the Château du Taureau and Louët Island.

Taureau Castle and Louët Island: Jewels of the Bay

It's impossible to mention Carantec without mentioning Taureau Castle, a 17th-century naval fortress built to protect Morlaix harbor. Accessible by boat from Carantec, a visit immerses you in the region's maritime history.

A short distance away, Louët Island, full of charm with its lighthouse and small houses, gives this Breton coast a worldly feel. It's even possible to spend an unforgettable night there, cut off from the rest of the world.

Gastronomy between land and sea

In Brittany, we eat well, and in Carantec, even more so. Seafood, fresh fish, buckwheat pancakes, and kouign-amann delight the taste buds. The two-Michelin-starred Patrick Jeffroy restaurant is a local pride, but even the small crêperies in the village offer delicious and generous cuisine.

What to do in Carantec?

-Explore Callot Island on foot or by bike at low tide -Stroll along the GR34 coastal path -Visit the Château du Taureau by boat -Swim or relax on the beaches of Kélenn and Cosmeur -Enjoy seafood overlooking the sea -Get lost in the flower-lined streets of the town centre

Tahiti Beach, Morlaix Bay, Brittany: A small, sheltered beach wonder at the end of a sandy path lined with overhanging pine trees, Tahiti Beach is a well-kept secret among locals. It is located at the tip of the Carantec peninsula and offers views of Morlaix Bay and the castle perched on a rock: the Château du Taureau, the French Alcatraz.
