National Museum of Prehistory in the Dordogne

It is both a place of memory for the history of prehistory, a conservatory of objects, a study center and a place for the dissemination of knowledge in constant evolution, the National Museum of Prehistory has been, since its creation at the beginning of the 20th century, a place of reference for prehistorians as well as for visitors.

You will observe the discovery visits of the essentials, or you will discover the passages of certain species during prehistory and preserved until today.

From the contemporary world to prehistory

From the lit square, the visitor enters the hall in a subdued atmosphere, to access, through a narrow gallery in semi-darkness, the "stratigraphic funnel", a spiral rise which detaches him materially and symbolically from the contemporary world, for better immerse him in the prehistoric era.
