Orelsan, named Knight of Arts and Letters

What is a Knight of Arts and Letters?

It is intended to reward people who have distinguished themselves by their creation in the artistic or literary field, or by the contribution they have made to the influence of the arts and letters in France and in the world.

OrelSan is a French artist, with many hats. He is notably a French rapper, singer, composer, actor, director and screenwriter.

V comme Victoire...

He has won many victories in recent years:

  • Victory for audiovisual creation of the year in 2018 and 2022

  • The Victory of the original song

  • Victory for Male Artist of the Year in 2018 and 2022

  • 2019 Concert of the Year Winner

  • NRJ Music Award for French-speaking male artist in 2022

Here he is with 10 trophies!

Aurélien Cotentin, under the name of Orelsan

Aurélien Cotentin was born in Normandy in Alençon in 1982, and originally from Caen where he spent all his childhood/adolescence. He first became known on the internet on Myspace as a young rapper. 4 albums, a committed artist

"Perdu d'avance" (2009–2010) "Le Chant des sirènes, Casseurs Flowters" (2011–2017) Orelsan slipped a golden ticket in five copies of the disc, which gives access to all the concerts of the artist free for life for two people. "La fête est finie et Épilogue" (2017-2019) "The Party Is Over" went gold in three days, platinum four days later, double platinum a month later. In addition to this commercial success, his third solo album brings OrelSan three Victoires de la Musique. In June 2018, "The Party's Over" was certified as a diamond disc.

In 2020, he retires from the networks and takes a media break to focus on his personal but also professional projects, this is how he will prepare his last album.

"Never Show This to Anyone" a biographical documentary

He then returns to the front of the stage with a documentary on his life, directed by his brother Clément Cotentin "Never show that to anyone". And then announces the tour of his new album. A beautifully produced documentary that retraces the life of Aurélien from his beginnings, through an intimate behind-the-scenes immersion of his life told and filmed for the most part by his brother Clément who followed him for almost 20 years with his camera. .

Pure France recommends the documentary "Never show that to anyone". "I love it. What a genius idea for his brother to have filmed OrelSan in this way for 20 years, from his adolescence to the creation of his last album. We see the flaws, the questions, the controversies, the odd jobs, the crazy -laughs".

A score of 4.5/5 on allociné and 1,390 reviews. Available on Amazon Prime Video.

"Civilisation" (2021-2022) A week after its release, the album sold 138,929 copies and was certified platinum. This is the biggest first-week start since the streaming era in French rap history. The album won two Victoires de la musique (Best song for "L'Odeur de l'essence", and artist of the year for OrelSan).

A surprise for the winners of the golden ticket: Orelsan slipped a golden ticket in five copies of the disc, which gives access to all the concerts of the artist free for life for two people. OrelSan, but not only...

OrelSan has always been accompanied in his success by his childhood friends: Ablaye and Skread. Ablaye is backing producer and acolyte of rapper OrelSan. Skread meanwhile is the producer of Orelsan, he is also a French composer, musician and beatmaker.
