Palais des Papes

In Avignon, in the South of France, is one of the largest medieval Gothic buildings in Europe. Composed of two buildings: the old and the new Palace. Its library houses more than 2,000 volumes.

The construction work was carried out by Pierre Peysson and Jean du Louvres. The building was classified by UNESCO World Heritage in 1995. Many art exhibitions are held every year at the Palais des Papes. Visitors can see and admire the Grande Chapelle, the Cour d'honneur and its 12 towers. With a total area of 15,000m², the Palais des Papes is the largest Gothic palace in Europe.
