The must-sees of the Landes:

The Marquèze Ecomusée, a train journey, takes you 150 years back to discover a bygone era. La Leyre, immersed in the Landes forest up to the Arcachon Bay, aboard a canoe, on calm waters.

Mont-de-Marsan, meeting local producers at the market on Saturday morning and a small café on the terrace on Place Saint-Roch. Dax, a city of art and history. Its ancient name "Aquae Tarbellicae", meaning "the waters of Tarbelles". Don't miss the famous hot fountain square where water at 64°C flows continuously.

Discovering the Saint-Jean de Sorde Abbey

At the water's edge, it'one of the 4 Landes sites listed as UNESCO world heritage sites on the routes to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle. The tympanum, the historic capitals, the Romanesque mosaics are among the most fascinating works of this architectural ensemble.

Called “new towns” they were built on an architectural plan responding to the challenges of living well together; Formerly, 30 bastides built in the Landes, today we retain around ten particularly remarkable ones: Labastide-d'Armagnac, Pimbo, Geaune, Hastingues.

The Landes arenas: today, we have 90 in the department. Belonging to the cultural identity of the Landes, the arenas all have different architecture. Today, three Landes arenas are listed in the inventory of historic monuments: Amou, Bascons and Roquefort.
