La Cité is truly a sight to behold, with fairytale ramparts and winding streets to explore. In addition to the many restaurants and shops on offer, you can stroll along the ramparts, take a horse-drawn carriage ride (ideal for children!). Immerse yourself in history, watch extraordinary shows, or enjoy the unobstructed view of Carcassonne offered by the Cité. Stunning views outside, the best place to see the city as a whole. After a turbulent history closely linked to the Cathar religion, it was almost completely lost and on the verge of collapse. A groundbreaking restoration in the late 19th century remodeled it to what it would have looked like in medieval times, with a few extra flourishes (the pointed fairy-tale turrets).

Now you can stroll the cobbled streets and imagine what life would be like during this notoriously dark time in history. Inside, you will find the famous Comtal castle which is worth visiting, souvenir and gift shops, clothing shops, objects, galleries, museums. As well as many cafes and restaurants offering appetizing local cuisine. You can visit the City in a day, but something tells me when you experience it, you'll be back soon!
