The magical summer festival in Carcassonne, 2026

Every summer, when the ancient stones of the medieval city of Carcassonne light up at nightfall, they become the backdrop for an unparalleled cultural spectacle. In July 2026, the Festival de la Cité returns for an even more ambitious edition, blending concerts, opera, performances, and big names from the international music scene—still at the Théâtre Jean-Deschamps, this legendary open-air venue in the heart of the fortified city.

A historic setting for contemporary emotions

The main concerts of the In Festival take place in the Théâtre Jean-Deschamps, nestled within the historic ramparts, offering a unique setting to experience music under the stars. This open-air theater, steeped in history, has hosted legendary artists over the years and continues to be a major cultural venue in the region.

Around the medieval city, the entire town also comes alive with the Off Festival, which offers free concerts, street performances, and convivial gatherings in various neighborhoods—notably the Bastide Saint-Louis and the town's iconic squares.

An eclectic and inspiring lineup

The 2026 program promises to be eclectic, rich in styles and emotions. Among the artists already confirmed—with dates throughout July—are:

Ludovico Einaudi: enchanting piano under the stars. Laurent Gerra: humor and stage performances. Chris Isaak: rock and timeless ballads. Christophe Maé: energy, sunshine, and popular hits. Tom Odell: pop piano and raw emotion. Franz Ferdinand: indie rock that gets crowds dancing. Sex Pistols and Kool & the Gang: rock and disco funk surprises. Not forgetting original offerings like Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 – A Painted Symphony or the opera Carmina Burana for a touch of lyricism in the program. When and how to enjoy it

The 2026 Festival de la Cité takes place primarily throughout July, with concerts at the Théâtre Jean-Deschamps, in the heart of the medieval city, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Tickets for the "In" concerts are on sale through the official box office — some shows are already being hailed as must-sees, and early booking is recommended for headliners.

An atmosphere, a city, a celebration

Beyond the concerts, the Festival de la Cité transforms Carcassonne into a vibrant and festive stage: the ramparts light up, the narrow streets resonate with music, and the terraces fill with art lovers and travelers seeking summer experiences.
