Visit ancient Avignon

A little gem on the Rhône, in Provence. A charming town with a warm village atmosphere, which is worth a detour and not only for its famous bridge, the Pont d'Avignon.

Take the time to visit the city of Avignon in Provence and you won't regret it.

The streets of the walled city are mainly pedestrianized, so if you are driving we recommend parking in one of the car parks across the river and crossing the bridge. It also provides stunning views of the landscape over the city and is a great photo opportunity.

Pont d'Avignon or the very impressive Palais des Papes are must-sees, you can benefit from reductions by buying a combined ticket at the tourist office or on site.

You will be spoiled for choice for restaurants and cafes and excellent local cuisine in a charming setting.

SAINT PETER'S BASILICA OR THE FLAMBOYANT PROVENÇAL GOTHIC

While strolling through the city you may come across it by chance, both the interior and the exterior are well worth the detour with its lace facade and its richly carved solid walnut doors.

Five free museums in the heart of Avignon

Angladon Museum, Louis Vouland Museum, Pierre de Luxembourg Museum, which complement each other and offer to see several thousand works of art – objects, documents, paintings, sculptures – distributed in the most beautiful buildings of Avignon.

Le loft à sel, inaugurated in 2018 in one of the oldest buildings in the city, the loft to salt offers a multidisciplinary program in the field of visual arts and living arts, at the crossroads between art, science and technology.

Gastronomy, local products

Strawberry, cherry, garlic, olive oil, the Avignon region is the land of plenty. Producers will welcome you to their farm, their distillery and even their factory to share their passion and know-how.
