Pink flamingos in Peyriac-de-Mer

Admire wild flamingos at Peyriac-de-Mer in the south. A real treat for bird watchers, admire the pink flamingos in the wild on the Languedoc coast. If someone asked you where you can see flamingos living in the wild, Peyriac would be unlikely to be your first answer! Peyriac-de-Mer is 20 minutes from Narbonne and home to wild flamingos all year round. A beautiful place to walk, wooden walkways cross the sea to help you get closer to these magnificent birds. There is ample free parking by the water and you can stroll around the small village and dine in one of the lovely restaurants in the pretty village square.

I continue my journey to Peyriac de Mer and on the old saltworks, taking the wooden walkways, I can see other flamingos. What magnificent landscapes rich in fauna and flora!

The ideal season

It is easier to see them during most of the winter but they are observable all year round, when there is little wind.

A guaranteed favorite for the village of Peyriac-de-Mer

A sure favorite for this village which revolves around a charming square where you like to sit in the sun on the terraces of restaurants and cafés, a stone's throw from the town hall and the church! The surroundings of the town benefit from beautiful addresses of winegrowers and wine estates, including several in organic farming.

Environment

After crossing the old saltworks on the photogenic wooden pontoons, the Doul pond awaits your gaze and much more since swimming is possible there (very salty water!). While respecting the paths, continue to the hill of Mour from where you embrace an incredible view, 360°, on the ponds, the sea and the massifs.

Vineyards between massif and pond

Discover the wine estates and cooperative cellars in order to experience a moment of sharing and conviviality with the winegrowers of the Côte du Midi. Different personalities where everyone has their story to tell you, about the production through a playful moment: cellar visit, from the vineyard to the tasting.

Walk of the 5 senses, an original concept in Peyriac-de-Mer

A gastronomic walk in the vineyards in the spring. And discover the village from an artistic angle with Peyri'art at the start of summer.

A bit of history - heritage and history of the village

Before the arrival of the Romans, Peyriac-de-Mer was a small Iron Age port known as the oppidum du Moulin. The remains are exhibited in the archaeological museum in the center of the village with prehistoric collections. Take advantage of your walk by strolling through the narrow streets of the historic center to soak up the atmosphere of this typical Côte du Midi village.

The Doul and the Mour

The pond of Doul is offered to you, you will observe an incredible view at 360 degrees, on the ponds, the sea, and the massifs. A place where calm and tranquility reigns where you can observe flamingos and wild ducks. If you are passing through Peyriac-de-Mer you will be able to enjoy a village which revolves around a charming square with terraces of restaurants and cafes, a stone's throw from the town hall and the church.
