Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges

Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges is a perched village surrounded by ramparts which merge with the rock. Stroll through its streets lined with noble houses. Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges is a small village located in Haute-Garonne in Occitanie, in the heart of the Central Pyrenees. But also 1 hour from Toulouse and 30 minutes from Tarbes. This village is also classified among the "Most Beautiful Villages of France", it is an ancient Roman city that has become a major place of pilgrimage on the way to Compostela. There you can visit Sainte-Marie Cathedral, listed as a UNESCO world heritage site on the paths to Santiago de Compostela. Its origin dates back to the Middle Ages, where it was enriched until the 16th century with decorative elements, such as the choir of wooden stalls.

Comminges Festival

In August and September, you can reserve your tickets for the festival on the Saint-Bertrand site, with around twenty concerts (voice, piano and organ).

The ancient city

It has been waiting for you for 2,000 years at the foot of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges, you will discover the ruins of the ancient site of Lugdunum-Convenae. Founded in the 1st century BC.

You will be able to see the forum, the ancient theater, the thermal baths and the portico square. Imagine: 5-10 thousand people lived here. Don't miss the paleo-Christian basilica, one of the oldest Christian churches in southern Gaul. The city is listed as a World Heritage Site with the Saint-Julien chapel. The legend catches up with History written by some great characters. Founded in the 1st century BC, the ancient city is home to the exile of Herod Antipas. A few centuries later, three bishops of Comminges gave Saint Bertrand the splendor that made it famous. Today there are 250 inhabitants left in the village with a certain cultural influence and charm. It is good to live and stroll, learn and dream. The towns of Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges and Valcabrère are now emblematic tourist places. And are distinguished by the label: major sites in the Occitanie Pyrénées Méditerranée region. They are also listed as UNESCO World Heritage for the routes to Santiago de Compostela.
