To visit in the Lot et Garonne: the castle of Duras

Visit of the Château de Duras

The Château de Duras reopens its doors in February 2022! The first castle was built in 1137 on a rocky outcrop by Guillaume Amanieu Viscount of Besaume, Benauges and Gabardan. You can visit the castle on your own or with a guided tour. In addition, an archaeological and ethnographic museum is located in the basement.

The history of the Castle

The Château de Duras is located in Lot-et-Garonne, on the border of the Gironde and a stone's throw from the Dordogne. It is an example of architecture from the Middle Ages and Renaissance style. At the beginning of the 14th century, Gaillard de Goth, brother of the first French pope, Clément V, inherited the seigneury of Duras. He benefits from papal money to transform his castle into an impregnable fortress. Located in a strategic territorial area during the Hundred Years War, the Dufort-Duras were able to pull out of the game according to alliances and financial advantages.

Privatization: seminar, conference or meeting

It is possible to rent the seminar room in Château de Duras. Located between Bordeaux and Toulouse, not far from Bergerac and Marmande, the château welcomes you for professional meetings, with the château reception room and main courtyard available.
