The château is situated in open countryside, 34 minutes from Bayonne and 45 min from Biarritz. Bordeaux and Toulouse airports, 2 hours.

The famous beaches and surfing town of Hossegor, 28 minutes.

Bayonne is famous for its ham and chocolate. L'Atelier du Chocolat is worth a visit - part museum and part workshop. The Basque Museum provides a fascinating insight into the history of the region. And stroll around the old town with its medieval streets and bookstores.

Biarritz is known for its surfing and pelota.

The spectacular Bayonne Catherdral is a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Biarritz is quite charming and is much loved by visitors because of the town, the beach and coast and its reputation as the surfing capital of France.

The Grande Plage in the centre of the town is superb and provides much of the appeal of Biarritz. The Art Deco style casino is in a central position on the beach and is a perfect spot to sit on the terrace, sip a glass of wine or have lunch and watch the waves.

Excellent coastal path for walkers.

Golf in Aquitaine - permanent all year round green fairways on all golf courses around Hossegor and Biarritz, as many courses are links courses or adjacent to large rivers.

Nearest beach to the property is Plage d'Ondres, 30 minutes.

Easy day out to San Sebastien in Spain, 70 minutes away.

I stayed in Chateau Routger with my family and some friends last Summer. It was magical, right from the moment we drove up the drive and I passed the swimming pool and saw the house, I couldn't wait to explore the château and its gardens. I stayed in one of the 'children's rooms' on the upper floor, which are beautiful rooms with lots of books to read. I spent my days playing with my friends in the grounds, we particularly liked laying in the shade under the old oak trees chatting and in the evening we loved playing one of the many of the board games. The beach, mountains and pretty little villages are close by and beautiful.

I loved this holiday. I love sport so I sent most of my days in the gorgeous pool, I would practice my swimming and then float around and look at the blue sky. I loved the tennis court and spend hours practicing my forehand. The château is so pretty, it could have been made up. Any kid would love this place.

Our Stay at Château Biarritz couldn’t have been more delightful and could not have been better appointed, the furnishings were gorgeous, the room proportions, very good, the views onto the grounds very relaxing and peaceful. Close by is the glamour and razzmatazz of Biarritz whilst the beautiful city of Bayonne is so handy for wonderful shopping and fabulous restaurants. The log fire was a great treat for cosy evenings. The tennis court and swimming pool makes the château a holiday centre in itself where you can while away days before realising that maybe you should explore a little further into the surrounding countryside, cities and world famous beaches.

We booked Château Biarritz with the view of using it as a base for our golf trip. Prior to that we had no real experience of the Basque Country before and in the end played less golf that originally planned as there was so much to do and see! We were extremely lucky to be there during the Fete de Bayonne festival where the entire city turns into an open air party. On a foodie note, we generally enjoyed the many Basque restaurants and in particular the harbour fish restaurants in Biarritz and St Jean de Luz. The local golf courses were very varied but the highlight had to be the challenging Golf d’Biarritz with breathtaking terrain across the edges of the cliff edge with thrilling views of the coastline.

We had a wonderful October half term family holiday at Château Biarritz watching the Quicksilver and Roxy ProFrance surfing championships in Hossegor. The weather was still warm and in between the events we visited San Sebastian and loved the Old Town there with so many amazing tapas bars. At the end of the day, back at the château, it was great to curl up around the fire in the evening and plan the next days excursions.
