Walk through the wrought iron gates, under the 400-year-old chestnut tree and down the secluded path to discover a majestic 13th Century castle filled with historical charm and beautiful contemporary style. Located in the heart of the Burgundy wine region, near some of France’s most stunning towns and sights, Château Bourgogne is a truly magical place to escape to.
It’s a wonderful story – starting as a dream when the devoted owners spotted the castle in an estate agent’s window in Paris. Since then they have put their heart and soul into the château’s sensitive restoration and what they have created is a unique, unpretentious yet luxurious place to stay which has retained so much of its rich historical past.
With origins date as far back as 1000AD; the main château was built in medieval times and used to protect local inhabitants during times of war. It has a long and interesting history with various owners, including a famous French actress and singer during the last century. There are historical features throughout such as the 15th-century steep staircases, thick stone walls, a library in the turret and the watchtower terrace overlooking the glorious grounds and countryside. You can enjoy listening to the grand piano by one of the original fire-places or dine by candlelight on the medieval table by the two roaring fires in the stunning living-dining room.
You will be greeted with a glass of sparkling wine as you arrive, then you can begin to explore your enchanting castle. There are ten bedrooms across the three upper floors, some of them en-suite and with original fire-places. Only the finest quality bedlinen has been used plus there is central heating and high speed Wi-Fi to add to the list of modern amenities. You can hire a chef to work in the immaculate kitchen or keen cooks will love the Lacanche range cooker to prepare a feast of local delights. A wine library is also available so you can purchase excellent value wines, carefully curated by the château's sommelier.
Step outside to the meandering grounds and find the wonderful eco-heated swimming pool or simply sip local wine by the terrace. Keen walkers can wander through the nearby forests whilst tennis lovers only need to walk into the village to hire a court, complimentary for Château Bourgogne guests.
This small ancient farming village is built around the castle, is a little hidden gem overlooking surrounding forest. You’ll find a shop selling essentials there, including fresh bread which you can pre-order for your stay. For a wider choice of boutique shops, supermarkets and excellent restaurants head to the medieval town of Noyers-sur-Serein (12km), one of Frances ‘plus beaux villages’, where you can walk by the river or have a leisurely lunch in this picturesque setting.
A little further are the two World Heritage sites of Abbey de Fontenay (30km) and Vézelay (40km) or take the high-speed train from Montbard (24km) to wonderful Paris in an hour for a day to remember for all the family.
You are of course in the heart of the real Burgundy with so many world-famous wines within an easy drive. You can spend a day tasting fine white wine in Chablis (36km) or head to the wine capital of the region, Beaune (106km) in just over ninety minutes. The château can arrange for a top-class sommelier, who has worked with world-class chefs, to spend time with you to advise you on the best vineyards to visits and wines to try.
There’s no doubt that in such a divine and historical setting, in the heart of beautiful Burgundy, you will create memories here with your friends and family that will stay with you for a lifetime.

The magnificent castle is located in a small village. Here you will find a small shop selling essentials such as cereals, meats, beers and wine as well as bread, which you should order the day before (you can set up a regular order for your stay).
There are tennis courts in the village which guests may use free of charge (the chateau has rackets you can borrow) and bikes from nearby Auxerre can be rented and delivered to your door. Horse-riding is within half an hour and there are some stunning hikes in the area. Keen walkers can discover a druidic menhir in the nearby forests just 2km from the castle. Plus, golfers can choose from either the 9-hole course at Golf de Tanlay (30km) or the 18-hole course at Le Domaine du Roncemay (80km).
Noyers-sur-Serein (12km), one of Frances ‘plus beaux villages’, is the nearest town with a wider choice of facilities such as a wonderful bakery, excellent restaurants and a brilliant shop selling the very best meats, terrines, snails and fine wines. The charming medieval town is full of history with pretty squares and fascinating buildings dating back to the 13th to 19th Centuries. You can wander down by the river, watch artists paint and have a delicious lunch in the picturesque setting.
You’ll find two small supermarkets in Noyers as well as one with a greater choice of fish in L’Isle-sur-Serein (10km). This is another gorgeous riverside village, with an excellent supermarket, a bar, a highly regarded restaurant and a 24h petrol station.
You can also visit local farms to pick up amazing fresh produce such as milk and cheese near Blacy (10km) and meats near Noyers at Clavisy (15km).
Food lovers must visit the wonderful morning French markets to pick up all sorts of local delicacies to cook back at their château. Noyers has a market every Saturday and Wednesday plus in the autumn they host the famous Burgundy truffle market with stalls selling local produce and pottery. Others include Avallon (25km) on a Wednesday, Chablis (36km) on a Sunday morning, Auxerre (52km) on a Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday. A little further afield are markets in Dijon (110km) four times a week on a Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday and Beaune (106km) on a Saturday.
Burgundy’s wine regions now have a World Heritage status with the beautiful Chablis just over half an hour away, producing one of the world’s most famous white wines. A day’s wine course with tastings and lunch can be arranged at one of the finest producers in the town or simply visit the domaines, boutiques and specialist shops that are scattered over this delightful place. The château can arrange for a top-class sommelier, who has worked with world-class chefs, to spend time with you to advise you on the best vineyards to visits and wines to try.
Also nearby you have the Abbey de Fontenay (30km), dating back to 1118, the oldest preserved Cistercian abbey in the world and the idyllic town of Vézelay (40km), with boutiques, galleries, cafés and flower filled alleyways and courtyards. Both are World Heritage sites and can easily be reached by car in under 45 minutes. The famous Grottes d’Arcy (34km) with amazing ancient cave paintings are also within a short drive.
You can also reach Paris in just one hour by taking the TGV train from nearby Montbard (24km), a wonderful day trip for all the family whether you want to take in the city’s galleries, stroll in the magnificent parks or simply see some of the sights of one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Other fantastic places to visit during your stay include the ancient Roman town of Autun (90km), a must-see in Burgundy, Beaune (106km), the historic wine capital of Burgundy and Dijon (110km), also famous for outstanding wines and stunning architecture.

Unforgettable.
My husband and I arranged to come to the Chateau as it has enough bedrooms for all our family - four children, their partners, and grandchildren, making 14 in all.
The Maitre de was fantastic - a wine tasting in the wine cellar one evening, a meal for the adults in the dining room. He gave very valuable suggestions for places to go, and helped with any questions
The donkey next door was another highlight. We were given carrots, when we collected pain au chocolat and croissant from the wonderful local shop, just up the road, so the children fed the donkey carrots. That shop has all sorts of quality cheeses and all we needed, even the basics.
So to sum up, we all had a wonderful time thanks to all the team, the locals, and especially the donkey, Marius - who we all hope to make our ringtone!

A week that will remain in our memories for life!
13 members of our family stayed at the chateau for the most wonderful week.
Staying in a castle was a new experience for all, especially for the children!
The pool was much used and fully appreciated!
Our host was a great support. We dined at his restaurant and he cooked a wonderful meal for us at the chateau!
We explored local villages. Noyers was a delight as were Chablis and the local vineyards.
This was a week that will remain in our memories for life!

What a truly special and magical place.
We had a wonderful family holiday here.
Noyers is beautiful with a lot of activities in the area for the children to enjoy. Tree climbing and zip wires, aquapark adventures, kayaking on the river, walks in castle ruins and then home to stay in an actual castle!!
We have enjoyed wonderful food in the castle hosted by the Castle’s maitre de, which was a very special event to celebrate a wedding anniversary. After a day of adventures we have all enjoyed cooling off in the pool or a game of boules.
A truly restorative break.
Aris
We thoroughly enjoyed the castle
I want to thank the owner again most sincerely for everything: for your kindness, your attentiveness, and your availability throughout this wonderful stay.
We thoroughly enjoyed the castle and could certainly imagine returning soon.

Wonderful stay at a beautiful castle. Fascinating for adults and children! Lovely pool, and fun evenings with wine and food courtesy of the maitre de. Epicure trips a great outing for little ones. And we ventured to Fontennay, Chablis, Vezelay etc.

We had a fantastic week at the castle!
The weather was wonderful - cool enough to enjoy a fire in the evenings, but the perfect temperature for some outdoor time by the pool (or a glass of wine on the watchtower terrace!) The views are truly amazing. We loved the wine tasting at the on-site winery and had several dinners brought in by local vendors. The Property Manager helped us coordinate the catered dinners, kept us in wine, and had an answer to our every question. The castle is convenient to the airport in Paris, but also centrally located for our day trips to Chablis, Beaune, Dijon, Noyers, and other locations! Looking forward to returning for our third visit as soon as possible! Thanks for another memorable soul-healing vacation.
Neve
Many thanks for a great setting.
We came here to celebrate the 75th birthday of our grandmother and mother-in-law from from four different European countries. The castle is amazing, truly one of a kind. Especially, the kids enjoyed the pool, area. We also did a wine tasting tour in Chablis, which is highly recommended. Our week was filled with laughter, good food, wine, and most importantly having a chance to come together again.
Stephen
So many memories.
We were so lucky with the weather, so were able to take full advantage of the pool. The turret allowed for stargazing to a degree that we don't get at home. So many memories of laughter, drinking and family time. Thank you.
Barbara
A splendid week
Splendid week, spent with friends, amazing trips, fabulous food and superb wine! I loved the house triple! So much space to enjoy with family and friends.

A wonderful time in a wonderful castle!
A wonderful time had by all of our family in this wonderful castle - -what a treat to spend time in a place with such a rich history!
We loved eating marshmallows by the fire, exploring all the nooks and crannies of the caste, admiring the autumn colours of the garden and big family meals inside and out (we had amazing and exceptional weather.) Outside of the castle, we went wine tasting at Epineuil, visited Tonnere,
explored the Grotte ‘Arcy, We played tennis a number of times, went regularly to beautiful Noyers, and saw a great exhibition at the Chateau Arcy d’ Franc. And the kids went twice to the biplane park - Auxois Morvan Adventures (for children and adults!). Thanks to the Manager for showing us the wine barrels and teaching us about wine production - it was a special treat. Mercy Mille Fois!
Rita
Holiday of a lifetime.
From Australia, we planned this special holiday celebration for a 70th birthday with a 50th wedding anniversary. We were looking for a place to make wonderful lifelong memories and Chateau Bourgogne did just that. Autumn colours arriving to the Chateau, leaves with pink and greens, provided a stunning affect.
The castle transported young and old to past times. An exceptional Chateau experience
Steph
What a wonderful week we had! The sun shone, the birds sang and the nine children laughed, played and swam. Our big family couldn’t have had a more perfect week. The children spent every waking hour in the pool. We had lovely trips to Noyers, Auxerre and Chablis - all highly recommended. The Chateau is an amazing place.

A dream come true. A dream I thought I would never realise was to stay, actually live temporarily, in a beautiful French Chateau. Being here, living here for a week with my wife, was that dream coming to life. Beautiful mornings of coffee and croissants out on the lawn table, day visiting other castles or strolling beautiful Noyers and evenings dining at the table, just Amy and I, with a fire blazing in the medieval fireplace, as it would have been 700 years ago. Thanks so much to the property manager for his help and guidance, and for a wonderful meal at Maison Paillot, and for a special wine tasting. So now my dream is to return.
Phil and Rosemary
A Beautiful Setting! What a beautiful setting for a special week with special friends and family. We loved the ambience and especially loved lounging in the gazebo by the pool. Thank you too to the in house catering, the meal served to us in the Chateau was outstanding. We’ll be back.
Victoria and Phil
So many unforgettable memories made!
We spent the most wonderful 10 days in this wonderful castle. Thank you!
The castle was more than we could have imagined. We enjoyed the pool, local wine and cuisine thanks to the in house sommelier and will certainly return.
So many unforgettable memories made! We cannot thank you enough.

The Castle is Amazing! We had the best of times here in the castle full of laughter, joy, wine and good food.
The castle is amazing and we would love to come again. Thank you for sharing this place we felt as if in part of a fairytale.

Perfect Visit in Every Way. We have just returned from our time at Chateau Bourgogne, and I am struggling for words to adequately describe our visit. Of course, when you have planned accommodations in a structure begun in the 1100s, you are a little concerned on the modern conveniences on which one is now dependent. Put those fears at rest! The Castle has been carefully and thoughtfully updated and our stay could not have been more pleasant. The rooms, linens and private areas are all very comfortable. The baths have been updated and easily accommodate a large party. We used the kitchen often to deliver every type and level of meal – from a quick nosh – to a five-course delight. The Great Room is my favorite with a fire place large enough to walk in and efficient enough to keep all comfortable. There is a Bluetooth enabled speaker system for that added touch as you relax, and Wi-Fi to stay in touch with the outside world. We were close to other towns and day trips were easy and fun! My only complaint is that it was too cool to use the lovely pool or sit at the table at the front entry and admire what must be beautiful flowering vines that grace the entry – but we were graced with snow which was magical! We can’t wait to return!

The Castle. We met up with our friends from Australia and Ireland (13 in total) at CDG and drove approx. 2.5 hours to Chateau Bourgogne. The manager was waiting for us when we arrived and despite it being a cool April day, the heating was on and the place was warm. Chateau Bourgogne is a magnificent property with about 10 bedrooms across three levels and numerous bathrooms (some ensuite) as well as numerous reception rooms, turrets, cellars and a dungeon. It is very well appointed and easily housed our party for the week. It is very well located in the Burgundy countryside and in close proximity to a World Heritage town. We also visited many other towns as well as a day trip to Paris on the fast train from Montbard (about 20 minutes’ drive from Chateau Bourgogne). It was cold the week we stayed however the Castle was very warm and we spent several evenings in front of the enormous fire place in the main reception room. Highly recommended. We are looking forward to our next stay during summer, so we can use the pool!

Just WOW! An experience that we will never forget!
Thank you so much for such a very memorable week at this divine castle. It was just incredible. Our memories of the pool sessions, cooking French cuisine in your gorgeous fully-equipped kitchen, exploring the beautiful grounds and area of Chateau Bourgogne will last a LIFETIME. This castle is so pretty, unique, comfortable and so accommodating and close enough to so many other amazing towns. We will be back! Merci!

A magical setting to celebrate with friends and family!
We stayed in this beautiful place for a blissful week and held our French wedding celebration dinner (we had already been married back home in Aus) in the garden with the Chateau as the backdrop. The chateau is a truly unique experience, steeped in history with many picturesque villages and walks nearby to explore. Or you can just enjoy lazing by the pool with a glass of local rose in hand! We hope we get to visit one day again!

Best Ever Stay, So Unique!
In August 2016 we spent 1 week with family at Chateau Bourgogne. It surpassed my expectations from the moment we entered the medieval castle with all modern cons. The bedrooms on the 2 upper floors are large with beautiful bed linen and fluffy towels. The kitchen on the ground floor is spacious enough to prepare a sumptuous dinner, or just heat up the beautiful delicacies we bought mostly in the nearby gorgeous village nearby. The grand dining room we used only twice, as the weather was so perfect, we had most of our meals on the terrace, and pre-dinner drinks on the turret. There was plenty to explore in the area by car. We visited a Romanesque church, an abbey, caves, wineries and a medieval town. Coming home to the castle we always had a relaxing swim in the resort-style pool, which was a pleasant 25C. We would love to come back to explore more of the area, while living in a medieval castle.

What a fabulous hideaway in Burgundy. We really loved Chateau Bourgogne - A Castle hidden away in a medieval village in one of the designated Beautiful Villages of France. This whole area is packed with stunning villages, quiet roads, world heritage listed historical sites, vineyards, restaurants and artisans presenting their handiwork to the locals and tourists alike. We had such a wonderful time exploring this area whilst based in this beautiful castle. This castle is fantastic, with a great blend of medieval rustic charm and modern comfortable rooms with all the trimmings we expect as modern-day tourists. Clean modern ensuites and bathrooms, comfortable beds, beautiful linen, fully equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi, TV room, library, pool, outdoor area and privacy. All the rooms are huge, clean, comfortable and cosy. The thick stone walls provide a quiet and well insulated environment. This castle has all the fun and fantasy that we imagined, afternoon tea with local cheese and biscuits on the turret with a view of the surrounding town and farming fields, a library in another turret, our ensuite in another turret. Sipping local wines and basking in the mild French sun by the pool. Fresh baguettes, cheese, fruit, and other meals prepared in the kitchen. With 10 bedrooms you can bring your friends and family and have a fantastic getaway. We thoroughly enjoyed this castle and will make it our new home when next we visit Burgundy. Thank you for making this a highlight of our 2016 Europe holiday.
