Wonderful stay, 5 children and 8 adults all found happiness. Bedroom, bathroom, very spacious living room as well as a pool terrace perfectly arranged for everyone and the little extra of an outdoor kitchen with barbeque. The proximity is very quiet, in the countryside but at a very correct distance to do activities. We thank the host for making this villa available for our holidays. We recommend without hesitation. The pool is really heated! Many pools in the south of France 'suggest' they are heated. However, Les Fumerates' pool - which is huge - actually is heated! In fact when we arrived the pools temp was 29C (86F)! After unpacking we took an early evening swim followed by an early morning swim... You get the idea... Like the picture suggests the views here are amazing. We had the downstairs apartment which was perfect. Two sets of French doors lead you to the pool, there are retractable awnings to shade you while having breakfast. The master bedroom is very large with a king size bed and a queen size bed which is great for unpacking or sitting on etc. There's a second bedroom and a breakfast / TV room. The kitchen was spotless with a view over the pool. A/C worked well (very important from mid June until end of August). Also there are 2 bathrooms (very handy). All in all highly recommended.
This is certainly the most tranquil villa I have ever stayed in. The pool and garden are quite lovely. Very hard to pull ourselves away. The area is wonderful. Finally I understand why so many people relocate to the Languedoc-Roussillon.
Over the years we have holidayed as a family in numerous French villas and without a doubt La Charmante Distillerie knocks spots off the rest. The standard of accommodation, both practically and aesthetically is second to none: the AC works beautifully and silently, the car charger (22Kw) was brilliant (we had 2 EVs), the quality of fitments is of the highest standard, the beds comfortable, the bathrooms (all 4) impeccable. The decor and artwork are also very pleasing. Outside, the grounds are beautiful, the gardens well tended, and the pool area vast and everything you could wish for. We spent many happy lunchtimes under the pretty awning and used the excellent plancha barbecue. Mark and Gary were extremely welcoming and generous to a fault with the provisions and drink left for us. We weren't allowed to leave anything untouched! All in all, a fabulous home from home to spend with the family - we were two each over 3 generations, and we didn't fall out once. I can't recommend La Charmante Distillerie highly enough, and it was a pity we could only stay a week.

We had a lovely time at the villa it’s beautiful and the pool and gardens are amazing. We have been coming to France for many years and always stay somewhere different and this is the first time we said that we would consider returning to a property. Everything seems to have been thought of. Inside the place is spacious as well, with separate quest rooms. The house is very suited for a large family and/or 3 couples due to the lay out. The master bedroom is huge and the separate bathroom is very luxurious and also spacious. The place is very suited for a nice formal dinner in the separate dinning room. We ate outdoor all the time but the inside is very nice too. My little one had to chose between the grand piano and the pool, a mayor dilemma. The pool is large enough to swim in it and not only to play around in it. It is surrounded by lavender bushes for a true French experience. Duras is in the neighborhood, there you can find a few shops, bars and restaurants such as bakers, a butcher, pizzeria and a supermarket. You should visit the Castle of Duras, it’s a recommendation definitely if you have kids. All and all, I should not recommend it too much…. so we can keep it to ourselves!
We have been renting villas in the south of France for over 20 years and we just say that owner of Maison des Communes has been the best host we have ever had. From the very generous welcoming gifts to the twice weekly breakfast deliveries to the excellent meal in Pourquoi Pas, he could not have done any more for us. Masion is ideally located, has a lovely pool and sturdy bikes. We had great fun cycling through the vineyards to Montady, capestang, Cazouls and also along the Canal du Midi. A great location for a group of friends on an extended holiday. Merci beaucoup.
We were a group of 7 adults and have had the most fabulous week in your villa. It is so unusual for a villa to work on every level, but yours really did. So much space – and so very well thought through with absolutely everything you might need supplied. And yes – far better than the pictures suggested. We greatly appreciated the cheese + wine on arrival – the bread + pâté through the week – and of course the meal at La Tour, which was just amazing! We made good use of the bikes (coldly wet!) and made our way to Montady a few times (a lovely ride on the cycle path). We visited Béziers, Carcassonne + Minerve – but most importantly – we were able to relax + chat and laugh! Thank you Philippe. What a great week.
It's been an absolute cracker. The house is a joy and the pool has been the centre of our stay. We've loved exploring the local area, particularly the beach side lunch in Cannes and wild afternoon at the inflatable waterpark at the lake.
We had a great vacation. 2 relaxing and calm weeks. Very friendly owners. We will gladly come back.
Lovely Cottage, perfect for our week in Thonac. Beautiful gardens and pool and excellent location with easy walk to local restaurant.
We were not too familiar with the region, but since we live in a highly fast-paced city, we knew we wanted a tranquil and somewhat less-touristy vacation spot surrounded by nature. Through an amazing agency, we were able to lease the cottage for two weeks in late August and had an amazing time there. The property dates back to 1750 and is fully well-renovated - every detail has been taken into consideration so one is able to enjoy the experience of staying in an authentic French country house, but with modern amenities that enhance the original character of the property, rather than detract from it. The town and the people are very charming and there are restaurants, cafés, a grocery store, shops, butcher shops, etc. and an excellent choice of patisseries and boulangeries, which my husband happily frequented every morning in order to bring back fresh breakfast goodies! There is a weekly market in the town square, just a 5-minute drive from the house selling amazing produce and other artisanal delights! The town is within a comfortable drive from beautiful sites in neighboring Beynac, Sarlat and Bergerac, not counting other small picturesque places you find on the way. And if you haven't done much research, fret not because the owners of the home have compiled quite an impressive binder of information with all of the popular attractions and must-see places in the area. I do not over-exaggerate when I say the house is extremely well-equipped as if it were our own home! When we were not out sightseeing during the morning, we were downstairs preparing food in the kitchen, which may seem small in the photos, but it is spacious and the layout is wonderful - the oven and stove are ideal for seasoned cooks, there is a full-size dishwasher and tons of pots, pans, utensils, gadgets and appliances - all in superb condition, so we wanted for nothing. Overall, we had an excellent stay at Maison Bourg Cales, which I would highly recommend to anyone in search of an idyllic, quiet getaway in the beautiful French countryside.
We had a wonderful week. The house is arranged and decorated with care, where it feels good. And what a view, what tranquility... Thank you very much for your warm welcome, everything is perfect here. And what about the heated pool that allowed children to have fun for hours. Thank you very much for everything.
We are now travelling to the Loire after spending a lovely week at Les Faures. After an initial couple of cloudy days, the weather turned out to be beautiful. We very much enjoyed exploring the area. We went canoeing at Pessac and went to the beautiful Château de Carbonneau. We also really enjoyed Le Gensake. Thank you for letting us stay at your lovely house.
We had great week staying at this lovely house! It is in quiet, rural location and we enjoyed exploring the area, which is very pretty. Sam was a great host and showed us everything and then left us to it – but was very helpful responsive with any questions we had. There were 7 of us and the house accommodated us all very easily. It is very well equipped and everything is in good condition and works well - lots of plates, glasses, large fridge freezer with ice maker, wine and beer fridges etc! The beds were comfortable and the house has two good bathrooms/shower rooms including a spa bath! There is a great choice of terraces and outside areas (covered and open) for sitting and dining, with lots of chairs, tables and sun loungers – which far exceeded expectations. The pool, surrounding terrace and gardens are really lovely and it is very quiet and private. The table tennis table was a bonus and we had a fun afternoon kayaking on the Dordogne, too! We would have loved a few more days there!
We have just returned from a fantastic holiday in Fitou, staying in this lovely and comfortable villa. I agree with other reviewers, the pictures do not do the property justice. It is spacious with a very high finish throughout maintaining a very homely feel. Our party consisted of 2 families with 4 kids (6, 6, 2 and 2), they loved it. As for the area, well it's a really special region of France. The location is perfect for day trips to the regions finest attractions (Carcassonne, Collioure, Gruissan etc...) and equally relaxing staying local. Fitou and nearby Leucate Village are charming and the local beaches are lovely, unspoilt and crowd free. There is as much or as little to do here as you'd like. We will certainly be coming back to the area and hopefully to this villa again.
We came here to celebrate a couple of family birthdays and get some time together. From the moment we walked in the door we quickly came to realise what an amazing place this is. The view from the kitchen window (bu the sink) literally brought my sister to tears. ... in a very positive way. This week has allowed us to explore the area to some degree, but with so much on offer around and in the property, there was little incentive to go anywhere. The difficulty now will be to keep this gem of a property a secret from others, as we will undoubtedly tell everyone about this fantastic place. Thank you for so generously sharing your house. I have had the pleasure to have spent many fantastic holidays at Château Entre-Deux-Mers. The beauty of the castle, the quietness of garden with lovely roses, the great pool makes every holiday just perfect. The stunning view will make you happy, every morning again. Situated near the greatest wineries, the beautiful villages like Saint-Émilion and the hospitality of all the wine domains in the neighbourhood make it worthwhile to go back. The château is beautifully decorated, the rooms are spacious and bright, the kitchen is equipped to cook a 5 star dinner and if you don't want to cook yourself, breakfast and diner can be made by a great cook in your own kitchen and will be served in the lovely orangerie. You will never forget a holiday with friends or family at Château Entre-Deux-Mers. And... you will keep coming back!

This time coming back in the summer we got to enjoy time by the pool with breathtaking views, monopoly in the living room, TV nights upstairs and dining under the stars outside. Your home is special to us and we always want to come back and never want to leave! It feels as if time stands still and our holidays feel so long and luxurious every time we are here.
We loved it here so much in 2022, we came back for 2024. Another fantastic stay - the villa is as special as we remembered it. More places discovered, more wine tasted and more memories made. Sete and Montpellier for this visit were a big hit. Kayaking down the Orb from Reals a family highlight. We will be back for a hat trick of visits as we love this villa!
Beautifully renovated Villa. Well equipped kitchen, large pool and lots of ensuite bedrooms. Has everything to keep you entertained whether it’s full sunshine or rain. The owners were super helpful and always a text away if we needed anything. Small town nearby and a big supermarket 5 minutes drive away. We would definitely stay again in the future!
